UPDATE 4/16/23: The Attorney General's office assisted me in this matter back in February 2021. Mario Arce from Mountainside stated in his letter dated 1/29/21 that my balance was waived the account was closed. However, Mountainside Fitness still reported a derogatory account to the credit bureaus. Mario told me that the matter was resolved, and that Mountainside would not be sending a negative account to the credit bureaus. However, Mountainside's falsely reported account has been damaging my credit score since February 2021. I have contacted the Attorney General's office again to assist me in getting Mountainside to remove the falsely reported derogatory account on my credit.
ORIGINAL REVIEW: When I joined Mountainside Fitness Paradise Valley, I paid the first and last months membership dues per their policy.
After I joined, this gym closed shortly after due to Covid. I called the gym to cancel my membership but they said I needed to come to the gym in person to cancel, but I told them I did not feel comfortable with that given the pandemic and the governor's restrictions in place for Covid. The gym refused to cancel my membership over the phone and did not provide me with any alternative for cancellation besides physically coming to the gym.
Now it is 5 months later and the gym is trying to charge me for 4 back months of membership at $50 per month plus late charges, when I cancelled my membership over the phone when they closed due to Covid. I only used the gym ONE TIME on the day I signed up for the gym, yet they want to charge me for a total of 6 MONTHS of membership including the first and last months dues that I paid for when I signed up. They are also threatening to send my account to collections when I owe them nothing because I already paid my last month's dues when I signed up and I canceled shortly after I signed up. I am going to take the necessary legal action to prevent this greedy company from ruining my credit based on their fraudulent claim.
I went into the gym today and they refused to listen to me or cancel my membership. The manager on duty ignored me and treated me rudely and then refused to cancel my membership unless I paid their exorbitant and fabricated fees.
Obviously this gym is struggling financially due to Covid and they are trying to steal money from their customers to make up for their lost profits. I used to be a small gym owner myself and this treatment of members is despicable. They treat me horribly like this just so they can make a few extra bucks off of me and they will do the same to you when you try to quit.
I am reporting this gym to the Attorney General's office. It is unlawful for this gym to require in-person cancellations during the Covid pandemic. Also the Attorney General's office will be interested to learn that this gym is stealing from and extorting their customers for money.
DO NOT JOIN HERE! There are many other gyms in town that are less expensive and the customer service is much,...
Read moreI used to love Mountainside, as I have been going there for 8 years.
Unfortunately I had really awful incident happen and I wont be returning. I left a meaningful sweater in the sauna, and as soon as I left the facility, I called. The girl at the front desk put me on hold so she could look and came back on the line to asked me if it was a "fuzzy black sweater", which was confirmation that she did in fact find my sweater. Who else leaves a sweater in a sauna. I can absolutely guarantee that if you pull up the cameras, you can see her with it. She assured me that she had it safe in the front desk cabinets that are locked, and that I would have to show ID to pick it up and she would note it in my account.
I went to go get my sweater that was confirmed to be in their possession, and upon walking in, the girl at the front recognized me and immediately said "you're here to grab your Supreme sweater right?" (also information I never gave out, which comes to prove again that they had the sweater). When she went to grab it, she opened the cabinets and ironically she couldn't find the sweater but then stated " I just saw it in here".
When I asked to talk to a manager, the manager was RUDE and called me a liar and stated that they never had it (as if she was part of any interaction) and that I have no proof. I'm sorry, but this is not how you treat someone. She then made a rude remark that she'd "text" her employees to see if anyone knows about it. Which is also a weird and also rude way of not actually offering to help or even apologizing.
The gym employees have no respect, and it's obvious someone stole from me. I asked them to look on their cameras and they declined. Because they...
Read moreFor all the mountainside’s I’ve been to this one is probably the best in terms of space and variety of equipment. The gym is newer and is still in pretty nice condition. However, a few gripes with the experience. There is so much space that it often feels underutilized. This gym could benefit from a lot more equipment (beyond the awful Hoist equipment - perhaps some more techno gym equipment). For as big as this place is there is usually only one of each type of machine, but there is plenty of room to add more. I would also add they could benefit from purchasing some more attachment pieces for the cable machines. Ropes, bars, handles, etc. In addition to these floor criticisms, the locker room needs some attention. The towels often go empty before being restocked - during peak times that doesn’t seem acceptable. The steam room if far to hot and usually burns you if you’re even 6 feet within the steam spout. Kind of makes the limited seating in the steam room useless if you can only sit on the far side without getting a burn from the steam. Finally, the men’s shower situation is rough and has been for weeks. Most of the shower heads don’t work or spray in 3 directions from the back of the head. It’s a simple fix to improve the experience but it seems like there is a lack of attention to detail when it comes to improving the facilities. Overall, the gym is good aside from these...
