Fire at Will should perhaps consider renaming itself "Kick in the Nuts". Having dined there - and having experience said "kick" I wish to explain myself in the interest of complete clarity. To begin with, Fire at Will, a nondescript establishment in an equally nondescript strip mall appears like many other restaurants dotting the Scottsdale area. Inside, the patron is presented with a single sheet menu consisting of items ranging in cost from $15 to $65 on the upper end of the priced scale. However, a featured item on the menu is labeled Coute de Bouef and described as a 28 oz prime bone-in rib eye steak. And this is precisely what one is served. But here's the rub.
Rather than price the item directly and honestly the customer is informed that the cost is "Market Price". Okay, fair enough. That is, until one receives the bill with the steak priced at $150. No...that's not a typo. Yes, these guys actually have the nerve to charge $150 for a steak.
In complete fairness to Fire at Will it was ultimately my responsibility as the diner to inquire as to what "Market Price" might be. But as this was far from my first time eating in a restaurant I was operating - as most of you probably might - on the presumption that if the cost was significantly greater than their most expensive item it would be mentioned - out of basic decency if not anything else.
When I brought my concern to the attention of the restaurant manager she replied "well, we just assume most of our clientele can afford the cost of a dinner". If you're like me you might find yourself a bit outraged at this line of logic. Simply put, it isn't that I can't "afford" $150. It's that $150 is an outrageous amount of money for ANY restaurant to charge for a steak entree.
It comes down to the fact that Fire at Will is playing GOTCHA! with their customers - a strategy that never won any business success in the long run. And I still think they need to rechristen their place "Kick...
Read moreWould definitely recommend! Very fun atmosphere (FYI can get loud) and had a great vibe! My husband and I had a 7:30pm reservation, but ended up arriving earlier. The hostess was very kind and helpful saying that she would try and fit us in earlier. We decided to sit at the bar and order a drink before dinner until our table was ready. My husband ordered the Julia by the Bay and I ordered the 75mm. Both were delicious! After about 15 minutes, our table was ready. We ordered the scotch egg to start, and it was phenomenal. My husband said it was the best scotch egg (bold statement, but true) he’s ever tasted. For dinner, I ordered the burger with a side of fries. The burger absolutely lived up to its hype. Delicious. My husband ordered the rib eye steak that came with a baked potato. He said the steak had good flavor and arrived cooked perfectly. The steak arrived in an extremely hot sizzling skillet. Although the skillet is a cool aesthetic, it’s not ideal. The skillet is so hot, and the sides of the skillet are raised, so it’s inevitable that you are going to accidentally touch the skillet. It’s just kind of hard to get in there and cut without accidentally burning yourself. Another issue with the sizzling skillet is that the steak keeps cooking- arrived medium and was medium well by the time he finished. The dish was still fantastic, just be aware of skillet and order accordingly. All in all, we had a great dinner at Fire at Will. Delicious food and very attentive wait staff. It was bit pricey. Our total (including the tip in total)...
Read moreMy friend and I came here during restaurant week for an early 5:30 dinner. I had made reservations through the website (Tock). Upon arrival, we were greeted and seated. The atmosphere and vibe was all nice, trendy, with a long bar, long high top tables and regular tables with an open kitchen. Amy our server introduced herself, she was excellent through out the evening, very attentive.
We ordered cocktails to start which we loved. My friend ordered off the restaurant week menu, starting off with the Crispy Brussels Sprouts, then the Grilled Salmon and ended with the Chocolate Tiramisu. I opted to order off the regular menu the Salt Spring Mussels and Caesar Salad. The food all came out looking good and tasting good. My friend was very happy with her restaurant week choices. My Caesar Salad was good though it could of used some anchovies as Caesar Salads recipes call for. My Mussels were OK, the broth was very good, but the mussels themselves were very small and I had a lot of empty shells with no meat to be found at the bottom of the bowl. With that said for the cost at $28., that is pretty steep. I did take notice that the $18 Burger was just a burger, the $32 Lobster Roll was just that. Yes the food is good but is it worth all the hype and price.
Check it out yourself! Atmosphere: nice and trendy. Service:...
