Jamils Global Village — Local services in Pittsburgh

I've been shopping here for about 20 years. The family who owns this shop are very welcoming and down to earth, especially the father and daughter. The items here are beautiful, very good quality, and many things are natural and hand made. They have gorgeous jewelry, great smelling oils, lotions, soaps, clothing, books, ect. I love this shop so much, that to buy my regular items, I travel all the way from Aliquippa, which is about 45 minutes away. I might be able to find similar items from some store closer to me, but there's no place like Jamils! Also, let's support all the local historic small businesses in East Liberty, including Jamils and places like it, who these big companies are trying to push out. Stores like Jamils are part of East Liberty and it's history! Don't let big business push out the local/little guy! East Liberty wouldn't be the same without this place! Updated on 3/28/21- I don't get here often, but the last time I came here I asked about Jamil and was told that he had passed, which really saddened me, because he was a good person who had such a welcoming and beautiful spirit! I know his family and the community miss him! He was a good example of how people of different races and religions, can and do, get along with, help, and uplift each other. It looks to me as if his son is doing a very good job of following in his footsteps. This is a family of good people with good hearts, with a store full of gorgeous, unique, and well crafted treasures. There's no other place around that could compare to its originality and charm! For years I loved Jamils. Jamil was Muslim. His children who were Muslim began running things and it was still great. They had good manners. But today I called to ask if there were boys thoubs and their sister who identified herself as "Baptist" (which is totally fine) got offended when i asked if her brother and sister were available (because i need something quick that the Muslim kids would know how to get). She literally began arguing with herself. She hung up, i called back to ask how i can get in touch with someone else and she just screamed on the phone saying i was playing on the phone. ZERO idea of what Im calling for because she only screamed over me. Like , it literally was an interaction with a person who has extreme psychiatric issues. To prove what im saying pay attention to this: She never found out what i was calling for but I learned that she is 50 years old, has daughters, she can fight etc etc. Literally what was going on in her head was not the situation AT ALL. She said her daughters were there so i asked to speak to one of them hoping one of them could take control of the situation. She hung up on me again. After all these years Im turned off now. Jamils may have lost a customer because thats a level of crazy that i dont just volunteer for in my daily life.I still rated it 4 stars out of loyalty, but I wrote my review so that the siblings could note how these type of interactions can negatively affect what their father established after all of...

MY ACE IN THE HOLE! I HAVE BEEN DOING BUSINESS WITH JAMILS FOR MORE THAN TEN YEARS! I KNOW BOTH THE MOM AND DAD AND IVE WATCH THEIR CHILDREN GO FROM TEENAGER'S, TO A GROWN MAN AND WOMEN WITH KIDS OF THEIR OWN. I WOULD HAVE LOVE TO GIVE THEM 5 STARS, BUT THEN I WOULDN'T BE TELLING MY TRUTH! I BROUGHT A LOT OF AFRICAN CLOTHING, AND COATS AND HAND BAGS FROM THEM. SOME WHERE ABSOLUTELY GOURAGES AND LASTED A LONF TIME, WELL INTO MY OLD AGE! OTHER ITEMS THAT I PURCHASED DIDN'T LAST THAT LONG. BUT I CAN COUNT ON ONE HAND, THE ITEMS THAT I HAD TROUBLE WITH. THE OWNER'S WHICH WHERE THE MOM AND DAD. ALWAYS TOOK CARE OF IT IN SOME WAY. WEATHER IT RESULTED IN A RETURN OR EXCHANGE. SO IN THE LONG RUN ALL PARTY'S WHERE PLEASED! PEOPLE ALWAYS ASK ME "WHERE CAN I GET THE BUTTER"! MEANING CO CO BUTTER BALLS FOR YOUR SKIN. This diffently is the place people.
