I purchased a mattress about a week ago, and although I am pleased with the mattress, my experience with the staff was belittling. As soon as the salesman came out from the back room he greeted me. When he realized that I, a young female, was the one who was going to be purchasing a mattress he instantly told me I should not be looking in the most expensive section and directed me to the cheapest section available because it was “more in my price range”. However, I had never discussed a price range or mentioned anything involving my financial situation. I continued to walk around and feel each mattress while laying on them. As I was going back and forth between testing them, he told me that I needed to “stop what I was doing, look him in the eye, and listen to him so he could tell me what I needed to be doing”. After he finished giving his spiel on how to properly shop for a mattress, I continued to look around and he attempted to apologize by saying “sorry, I just realized millennials don’t like being talked to that way”, which is ironic because I am in fact not a millennial. I simply responded with “I don’t think anyone likes to be spoken to that way”. His tone of voice was condescending and I am unsure why he continued to blindly assume and express judgment towards me based on preconceived notions, but I truly hope that no one else has had similar experiences with the staff. Lastly, while paying for my mattress, he decided to once again comment on how “I was spending a lot of money for someone my age”. Highly recommend. I don't write reviews often, but felt like I had to after my experience! First of all, I bought a mattress from them earlier in the year. It's really nice and I had a good experience, but I didn't think much of it until I had a comparison with Mattress Firm.

I recently bought a mattress-in-a-box from Mattress Firm (the brand Serta) to save some money on a guest bed. It took a few weeks to deliver and, once it did, it smelled so bad. It smelled like chemicals for TWO MONTHS. We obviously had to return it. That's what brought us back to Jonathan Stevens.

I wrongly thoughts that Jonathan Stevens only sold expensive mattresses, but we found a really affordable spring mattress for our guest bedroom that was made here in Grand Rapids and was delivered within a week! Plus, it DIDN'T SMELL LIKE CHEMICALS. It had no "new product" smell at all, which makes me feel safe knowing that their products are made well.

A note on their physical locations: yes, they have salespeople on the floor. But, talk to them. They're actually super helpful and really knowledgeable. The salesperson helped me find the right mattress and even gave some sleeping tips.

This is the only place I'll ever buy mattresses, pillows, etc....

We will have first night tonight on the mattress. What needs to be addressed is the delivery people rolling eyes and hugely reluctant to do their jobs. I don’t accept the Salesman Adam making promises that he can’t deliver. Especially when he doesn’t deliver them himself. Our delivery guy called him a glorified car salesman while still here. The delivery man was demanding lunch from Adam over my cell phone while still on site brining in mattress. Refused to take old frame and tried to leave old mattress here. Promises from Adam during sale left a sour taste in my mouth afterwards. The professionalism is lacking to say the least. Know one wants to hear the complaints or reluctance of delivery people once we pay close to $3000 for a new sleeping surface. I would suggest before buying from Johnathon Stevens that you get into writing any thing that is extra. Be prepared for let downs with filthy muddy plastic covered mattress being carried off the truck with the delivery people making our problem to clean the plastic. Two thumbs down for me today.
