This place has exceeded expectations for us twice now. Most recently, we purchased a BBQ grill and had it special ordered in a specific color. Alex took great care of us and handled everything professionally while still making us feel like family. We had the same grill ordered at a Lowes right across the street from our house but they weren't able to tell us for sure when our grill would arrive and we weren't confident they got the color selection correct. Ace, however, promised to get it to us sooner than the expected delivery of Lowes and they included free assembly AND delivery. Lowes was not offering free delivery and when asked about assembly, they weren't too sure about it because the item was special order so they just put it in the notes to have it assembled - which we weren't very confident about. Also, on top of free assembly and delivery, Ace offered us a $20 gift card and Lowes did not. Talk about competitive! Needless to say, we made the purchase at Ace and canceled our order at Lowes.
As I said, this wasn't the first time this Ace has exceeded our expectations. The first time was when we had just moved into the area. We got some custom key blanks ordered online so we can have some spare house keys. I made sure to get the right ones but when we got to Lowes (same one as mentioned above, unfortunately), we were told the key blanks were not correct for our house key. I used to work at a hardware store myself (Great Lakes Ace in Waterford, MI) so I knew for a fact those keys should work. I told them to try anyway (on one of the two blanks) and they messed the key up - it didn't work. I went to this Ace in Plymouth with the other blank and guess what? THEY COPIED THE KEY ON THE FIRST TRY WITH NO QUESTIONS AND IT WORKED FLAWLESSLY.
We are seriously blown away with this Ace and the incredible employees who work there. They have proven that a bigger hardware store isn't necessary better. I might have a bias since I used to work at an Ace myself but this store is better run than one I used to work at and this particular store has been able to deliver where others...
Read moreMonday I purchased an EGO self propelled lawnmower from the Great Lakes Ace store. They offered free delivery and assembly the very next day. I said yes to this offer. The sales person said I would get email updates telling me when to expect the delivery. Tuesday morning at 7:33 I received first email telling me my mower delivery was scheduled between 2:30 pm and 4:30 pm. At 12:15pm a second email was sent informing me of a projected delivery time of 1:58 pm. At 2:00 pm I checked my email again and found an email sent at 1:11 pm informing me my mower had been delivered. I opened my garage door and found the mower sitting in the driveway. No one knocked on the door to say they were delivering the mower. I did not have to sign a delivery receipt, nothing. As Ace assembled the mower I expected them to demonstrate that the mower was in proper working order. I doubt that anyone even tested the mower because there was a plastic clip covering the battery contacts that said “REMOVE” on it and the battery was wrapped in foam sheeting. I do not appreciate finding the $700.00 mower I just purchased left unattended on the street in my driveway. When I called the store to express my displeasure at finding my purchase just left in my driveway without the benefit of informing me of it’s delivery, the response was “Oh, they were ahead of schedule.” This whole incident is an example of shockingly poor...
Read morePurchased a Stihl Weed Whip from this store, after running the engine for under 2 minutes it shot engine parts out of its exhaust. Taking it back to the store I was told when you buy a whip an employee is supposed to take it out back to run it for you (this did not happen) and it will be registered for warranty at the store (also did not happen). If an employee ran the whip this problem would’ve been discovered, but after speaking with a supervisor named Scott several times, he did not offer any reason for why this didn’t happen, no apology for this procedure not being followed, and quite rudely let me know I am now at the mercy of their Stihl technician who is only in 2 days a week for 4 hours. I have had to buy a new weed whip while the brand new one I bought with 2 minutes of run time will be in their back room for who knows how long. Scott is clearly exasperated dealing with my situation and is not afraid to hide it. Once this situation is resolved I will not be back. Do not purchase Stihl products...
