My partner and I lived here from June 2021 - end of June 2022. Here are a few things that anyone thinking of moving here should know:
Pros - Rent was relatively cheap. There aren't breed restrictions though there is a max number of pets per apartment (4). There's two on site dog parks. Parking is easy enough. Snow removal is decent. The apartments have thick enough walls to not hear your neighbors. Package management is nice (Luxor) Management staff are friendly and helpful. The apartments have vinyl flooring. Many dog-waste stations scattered around the dog friendly side. Maintenance staff was friendly and helpful, if a little slow, but it's a big complex. Security deposit was the same as the application fee. Getting our security deposit back was easy enough. We provided a forwarding address and they sent us the check along with the receipt of their cleaning process. Free heat! Utilities were only internet and electricity. Apartments are clean and large.
Cons - Fees! So many fees! Non refundable pet deposits, garage and storage unit rental (part of their rewards plus club), pet rent, and more! No online rent payment. You have to physically walk a check to the office. What is this, 2001? Laundry isn't 24 hours, and the doors automatically lock when it's after hours. Too bad for you if it's 10:01 and your laundry just got done. Many keys. My partner and I ended up with 12. Three to our apartment proper, three to get in the building, one for the storage room, one for a not-provided padlock on our storage unit, two for the garage, one for the pool (replaced with a key fob), and one for the dog park. They installed weird guards over the recycling bin so you have to put everything in one at a time. And that gets old fast. I understand we as residents need to break down our boxes, but really? We're adults, please treat us as such. If you're accidentally late on paying rent (5pm on the 5th), because again, physical checks, you have to pay a fee (which I'm not mad about) and get a cashiers check by I believe it was the 10th. Which requires going to a bank, and potentially getting time off of work. This whole problem would be curtailed by an online portal. The application process itself is from the mid 00's. My partner's mother also works in apartment management, and she tells us the process was something the industry mostly phased out well over a decade ago. The buzzer system never worked for me. I locked myself out once, and tried to buzz myself back in, but the options always told me 'cannot connect', or something similar. My partner reported never having even gotten a phone call, as I was texting him throughout this ordeal. This may have been user error, but still. The building doors sometimes break so they're stuck open. It's not a huge issue, but it is a security issue. Cats are required to be declawed, though you can pay an extra fee to avoid it. I'd really love to see this not be a thing, as declawing cats is inhumane. To give notice that we were moving out, we had to: 1) email management asking the process, 2) physically write a "yes we plan to vacate" note out with our signatures, 3) take a picture of that note to email back to them. Little odd, as it seems like the email should have sufficed. I'm going to say again that the online portal would help this.
All in all, this apartment complex is cheap, and you get your money's worth! It was certainly a throwback to my student apartment, and I can't say I'm entirely mad about it. The management seems to only manage this one building, so that may have something to do with the outdated processes present in the complex. I think if management could create an online portal most of my cons would...
Read moreMy wife and I lived at Currents for about 5 years (three in a one bedroom two in a two bedroom) because we have two mixed breed pitbulls/boxers. We recently moved out to purchase our own home and upon moving out were hit with insane charges. When we moved into our two bedroom, there was obvious damage from previous renters. Pictures of the damage were taken and only 50% of the damage was replaced, the other half never was taken care of. Currents told us on multiple occasions that our apartments carpet would be replaced with hardwood flooring, yet upon moving out we were charged for pet stains on the bottom of the carpet after it was torn out (mind you, our pets are older and house trained/crate trained and not once threw up or urinated on the carpet). What I gathered from this is Currents is trying to charge me for carpet that is going into the dumpster to help cover some cost of their new hardwood floors. Our bathroom ceiling became extremely moldy and after reporting this, the front desk staff member recommended to "leave the bathroom fan on for two hours after showering". Now, like many people, I work full-time and go to school full-time. It's unrealistic for me to get ready for work (shower/get dressed) and wait around for two hours. I work 12 hour shifts, I don't have time to wait around for two hours to run the fan and light combination. This is a complete waste of my money and electricity. But, I did my best and after trying their recommendation the mold continued to get worse. I reported this yet again. This time, a maintenance member came to our apartment and painted over the mold (as I'm hoping you can imagine this did absolutely NOTHING to resolve the original mold growth). The mold grew worse and covered 20-30% of the ceiling that was above our bathtub/shower.
There are two staff members in the office that are basically useless, and a couple maintenance members who are equally useless. There are a lot of great people that work here as well. Kim (who helped my wife and I when we originally moved in) is one of the kindest, most helpful and empathetic people I met while living at Currents. She is awesome, and the rest of the staff could learn from her! Some of the good amenities are: the pool, the dog areas, "aggressive breed" friendly environment and the newly organized wheelhouse.
Assuming Currents reaches out to me in response to my email to them regarding my move-out charges and we come to an agreement, I will be leaving my review at a one star, however I may...
Read moreMy fiancĂ© and I have lived here for a little over two years now and have loved it! Currents is pet friendly, very spacious (both inside the apartments it self but also plenty of places to walk around outside as well!), and offers all types of amenities; such as indoor and outdoor pools, saunas, a gym, dogs parks, a coffee area, and even a mini grocery area in the main office! Rent is so expensive now a days and I feel that Currents is one of the cheaper apartments in the area and offers so much for what you pay as well. Currents is very close to everything you need as well! We are located right off 494 and just 20 minutes from the cities. As a vet tech and a cat mom of three, currents being so pet friendly with my girls was major plus for us when we were looking for a new place couple years ago. Currents makes my cats seem so much more than pets but more as part of our family. A down side to having cats here is the additional fees for things such as an additional $250/cat for not having them declawed. My apartment flooring is all wood and personally donât agree with declawing cats unless medically necessary (also most vet clinics in MN donât declaw cat anymore and is VERY HARD to find one that will). Otherwise we paid a one time pet deposit fee when you move in and then $15/month per cat! Your also pets have to be vaccinated for Rabies and Distemper and provide proof before you move in and have to stay up to date every year. As mentioned above, our 2 bedroom/ 1 bath is very spacious and open and we get a ton of natural lighting which my cats LOVE! The maintenance team is also great and very friendly with all animals and there is no need to lock them up when they come inside. Currents also added all new appliances and redid the flooring to our unit before we moved in as well! Current offers many fun events for people to get to know each others such as occasional group dinners, salsa Sundays, occasional donut mornings and fun things to do around the holidays (costumes contest for both pets and kids, patio/balcony decorating contests and much more)! We have loved living here so far and are in no hurry to leave. I highly recommend Currents to anyone looking for a new place especially if you have fur babies (you can have up to 4 per apartment which is also a...
