On my trip to Queen Mary, I purchased a trip for 2 for the Thursday night and fireworks. There weren’t many fish in the area and I understand because the fish population is unpredictable. There were probably less than 10 keepers with about 40-50 passengers.
The trip really left a sour taste in my mouth due to the unprofessionalism of one of the mates and I will not be going again nor recommending to anyone.
The mate on the ship, Jack, was very rude. The first instance was when my father asked him politely to move the weight a little further from the hook. He told him no, it was just fine. After my father had to say “please” twice, did he finally move it.
The second instance was when we ended up catching 2 fish and at the end of the fishing part we wanted the fish filleted. I walked up to Jack and asked him was he filleting and he said not yet but “it will be $1 per fish and it will be tip for all four of us running around”. The tone and demand in his voice toward a paying customer is unacceptable because tip is something earned and not required. He felt the need to specifically mention that we were required to tip him and the other mates for the trip. I told him that he didn’t have to remind me to tip because I understand the courtesy of tipping and I also read it on website.
I walked away and my father came behind me and inquired on the same. Jack again said to my father the exact same words after I just told him it wasn’t right. Not even 5 minutes later, “We should be tipping him and the 4 of them for running around.”
This trip came highly recommended but ended up being a disappointment due to his attitude, unprofessionalism and the tone he took with me and my father. I am completely for tipping and showing appreciation for those who help, but it is not okay for people to demand tip on any circumstance. I mentioned this to the captain, the captain said this is not a trip they charge for filleting the fish and Jack came back and apologized for charging but not for his words which really left the impact. The money for the fillet was returned. However, no further action was taken regarding his unprofessionalism and disrespect for customers. I rather go any where else where my money is appreciated rather than spend $140 to deal with someone who doesn’t respect me or my family. Truly disappointed with how the situation...
Read moreMy company out of Lancaster, PA booked the Queen Mary for a 7 hour employee appreciation trip in early September 2025. With 62 employees, spouses & children, large coolers with drinks and lunch on board we had plenty of elbow room to flip a line and swing fish over the rails. The boat was geared up and sprayed down spotless upon our arrival (always appreciated not having to dodge gull or pelican poop on the deck, seats, and grab rails first thing in the morning). Their tackle was top notch, appropriate for the target species & maintained well. Our employees appreciated separate women and men's heads with plenty of space to handle your business. As the day went on many spouses and younger anglers appreciated having the option to rest in the enclosed galley or to soak up the sun and salt air while spectating from the spacious open top deck. One of our more senior employees mentioned that they appreciated the Queen Mary's wider access steps to the top deck. The crew was accommodating, very knowledgeable, courteous, and respectful and seemed genuinely happy to be there with us. Special shout out to the Mate, Jenna who was very kind and helpful when she noticed one of our younger fisherwomen getting sea sick and offered to get her anything she needed and gave her some tips to help relieve her queasiness. Her and her father (also sea sick) greatly appreciated it.
We ended our day with a couple bags of filets and plenty of stories for the 2 hour bus ride home. Without hesitation I would recommend Captain Cole and the rest of the crew on the Queen Mary and will certainly be back if our organization decides to make this an...
Read moreI have been on MANY party boats over the years and some are better than others. If you do enough fishing you’ll understand what I mean. And with that being said, the Queen Mary is at the very top of my list for a number of reasons.
They run a tight ship. The crew shows up at the same time, they prep for boarding, and have a very organized approach unlike the other fleets.
It’s a clean vessel. You’ll notice why at the end of the trip — the crew meticulously scrubs everything down.
Very friendly, knowledgeable crew. Whether you’re tangled, need some pointers, or about to land a fish they’re always ready to go.
A captain that’s willing to do whatever it takes to put you on fish. This is the most important factor. So many other captains will just go through the motions — cruise to the same spot day in / day out at snail speed, honk their horn, and not make much of an effort (especially on slow days). This is not the case with Capt Dave. He’s constantly adjusting to conditions, looking for bait, finding fish, letting you know what he’s seeing on the electronics, how deep they are, and not scared to burn the fuel to make it a memorable trip.
So going forward whether I’m looking to go for blues, albies, or bonito this is now my go-to boat. And please don’t forget to tip the mates, they play a pivotal role to make this boat what it is, both behind the scenes and on the water. Looking forward to many more trips with this great...
