Point Lobster is perfection for lobster. You can comb the planet: you won't find a better lobster roll. I know I have a few folks who follow me: check out my reviews, we're dedicated lobster-roll-ophiles!
A bit of an explanatory note: I was looking up a past review and couldn't find the review for Point Lobster. It turns out I composed a review but never posted it. I'll now edit that review and add an additional experience at Point Lobster.
My wife asked me to choose a restaurant to celebrate my birthday. She gave me several choices, all restaurants we had enjoyed. I asked that we spend some time on the shore at Island Beach State Park. That was fine. The day ended up being very windy, we decided to cut the day short. “How about we go for lobster?” I asked. We both perked up. Off to Point Lobster we went.
I've worked for a fishmonger. We got our lobster from Point Lobster, so I knew Point Lobster was the place for great lobster.
Point has a rustic dining area that has rolling doors to accommodate the weather. We were promptly seated, our waitress was accommodating and cheerful, we were in the mood for lobster, and lobster we got. Point Lobster serves Lobster Rolls that are LOBSTER. No ground up scraps, no bread, just the requisite amount of mayo and celery on a bun. Pure, delightful LOBSTER. What a treat.
As I am revising my review, I am adding to the above review. I had reason to return to Point Pleasant recently. At the last minute I decided to treat my wife and I to Lobster Rolls, although she wasn't with me. I went in and asked if I could get lobster rolls without the roll: the roll would get soggy. No problem, said my server, we do it all the time. Within a few minutes I had my lobster rolls sans roll in a nice cardboard clamshell box with a piece of lettuce and a slice of lemon. The ingredients the same: excellent, identifiable lobster, just the right amount of mayo and celery, and a pickle. Just perfect.
Point Lobster has a dedicated staff who are quick to serve you. The premises are clean, and the salt air is guaranteed to whet the appetite. Parking is limited, but never seems to be a problem. Prices are quite fair, given what you are served.
Point Lobster is worth a trip: treat yourself, go even if you're not nearby. You'll have the best lobster roll you've ever had, and you'll find an...
Read moreMy friends and I visited today, and unfortunately the experience was extremely disappointing.
First, we were told there was a waitlist, which was understandable since they don’t take reservations. We waited 40 minutes, looked over the menu while waiting, and placed our order right away once seated. Then we just sat…and sat. After 45 minutes, our waitress finally returned to say, “I’m sorry, I have bad news—there’s no lobster bisque.” That alone held up all seven of our appetizers. Meanwhile, tables seated after us had already received and finished their appetizers.
We canceled the soup that wasn’t available and still had to wait another 15 minutes for the rest of the appetizers. By then, we had been sitting for over an hour without even bread or chips to hold us over. After appetizers, it was another 35-minute wait for the entrées.
The food was nothing special. My friend’s “double order” of lobster tails looked more like shrimp in size. My husband’s salmon was burnt and dry. When we pointed this out, the waitress did apologize and offered to exchange it, but realistically it would have been another 40-minute wait—and we weren’t willing to lose our entire evening.
Even if the food had been great, the atmosphere left much to be desired. While it’s technically by the water, the views are of a parking lot on one side and trash bins, gas tanks, and fishing gear on the other. Hardly the relaxing, seaside vibe we expected.
The only highlight? The French fries were good.
We were genuinely excited to try this place, but left disappointed on every front—service, food, and ambience. Sadly, we won’t...
Read moreIt pains me to leave ths review as I've been coming here for years for lunch. Last few times I've come to get chowder it's been served room temp. warm but not hot at all. I don't like sending things back but seriously last 4 visits same story. Yesterday I got the fish sandwich. 1small piece of fish suppose to be blackened but there was no flavor for $17 bucks 1 small piece of flounder, it's 14.99 a pound at store next door and you can get 6 small pieces in a pound. Highly disappointed but then my wife got crab cakes. They are big, dry, and consistency was like chewing glue with no flavor all filling and small tiny little obliterated crab meat that you can't taste. Both of us got heartburn on the way home and continued for the rest of the day. Personally this was one of my favorite lunch spots amongst many better places that serve food hot, with flavor. I won't be back that was it for me. Serve your chowder hot, prices are ridiculous for amount of food you get, seriously crab cake is AWFUL. Service is fine and I don't mind paying price if the food is good this isn't the case it's been going. Down hill for a long time I can't remember the last time I got chowder that above luke warm. 2 star review is being nice actually I changed it to what it really deserves. I could of said something, but to who at least restaurant up the block the owner is always there making sure people are happy, here look at the last few reviews all the same issues. I'm beyond disappointed and you know what shame on you people work hard for their money we're not tourists were locals that frequent this restaurant...
