I've collected since I was a little kid back in 2007. As a young collector, it was always very hard for me to go to an LCS since the closest shop was 20 minutes away, and my parents didn't want to feed my addiction too much. Even that store was relatively small. It was a dream of mine that a shop would open up close to home.
Well, lo and behold, Collectors Cove opens up shop in 2014-2015 five minutes away from where I grew up, and it was a dream come true. It is an excellent shop in pretty much every way. I always am compelled to give one downside, so, if anything, perhaps their inventory is not quite as large as some mega-shops like the 10th inning in Hampton, but everything else beyond that is just perfect.
They have plenty of inventory such that you will always find something you're looking for, their box prices are the best you will find at an LCS, ditto on singles. They have a ton of supplies for very competitive prices. To get similar rates online, you have to order in bulk. Oh yeah, the owners -- James and Ben are absolute all-stars. Super kind, super knowledgeable, and they will NEVER rip you off. They ALWAYS give you fair and honest prices. I've been in shops where, yeah, the owner is nice and all that, but it feels like sometimes he's just trying to make a buck off of you. I never got that feeling in Collector's Cove. It is almost a family environment.
From 2016-2020 (late high school days and early college), I would frequent the store absolutely as much as possible, usually 2-3 times per week over the summer. I have so many memories from the place -- watching someone pull a 1/1 Saquon Barkley patch auto, pulling a few big hits myself, or just spending a few lazy summer hours sifting through commons I need to fill out some sets.
Well, all good things must come to an end. My family moved a few hours away from the area, and I am about to move across country for work. I didn't realize until I moved away just how amazing this place was. I have an LCS in my current area, but it is bigger and the prices are comparatively outrageous. It is fine, but it is just not the same. I pray that Collectors Cove remains in business until next I can visit, because it will be one of my first stops if I am ever in the area again. They have a lifetime customer in me, and that will...
Read moreI share the same thoughts as everyone else. It isn't the biggest store ever but it's not tiny either. The owner has a good mix of all sports and he is very friendly and extremely easy to vibe with. I was in Virginia because of a work trip and drove 40 mins to check out the store due to all the great reviews and couldn't be happier. I walked away with some cool and unique cards for a great price. This is a must visit for me again...
Read moreThis is by far the greatest card shop we have ever been to. The shop owner is one of the kindest people we have encountered. He has set cards aside for my young son of players he knew he loved (this was not asked of him). It’s always been such a great experience going in, and my son couldn’t look forward to it more. We are so grateful for the help, kindness, and variety of cards offered at this shop. We are...
