Friendly and fast service during a short weekday lunch. Fairly priced, nice portion. Pictured is 13.95 lunch special with pick 3 rolls, choice of salad or soup. Wasn't the best in flavor, but certainly wasn't bad! I'm still in search of delicious sushi in the Hampton Roads area. Update: We had lunch again. This time, it was a Saturday afternoon prior to the restaurant closing at 3 to re open at 4:30 for the evening crowd. We shared a Japanese shrimp fried rice. We both enjoyed the dish thoroughly. It was served right off the grill, hot and steamy. There were plenty of delicious, good-sized shrimp. They were fresh and delicious. The rice had a lot of butter from the cook top. However, it was still flavorful. There were mixed veggies and eggs in the rice. We also shared shrimp Tempura 5 was tasty, but only 5 pieces from the entire roll. The eel sauce is a thick, sweet sauce drizzled atop. It is not the best shrimp tempura, but the actual panko is very thin, and the shrimp are nicely fried. We had the Philly Roll, which is consistent. The cream cheese is not the best I've had, and I would prefer the pieces sliced thinner, but it's fresh salmon and delicious sushi rice. We also had smoked salmon w cucmber roll and a smoked salmon with avocado roll. Both were equally delicious. The restaurant does have a distinct smell, likely from the raw fish. It is not foul...
Read moreI was actually looking for a new place to check out, and I happened across Asahi while browsing UberEats. I went ahead and placed an order for Takoyaki, The Honey Roll, and a Tai tea!
Now, when I order online I like to give a bit of leniency when it comes to the food. I know sometimes it's cold, or things happen. 90% of the time, your drivers awesome and the foods good if the reviews on Uber are good!
Not this time. The food was so bad, that I couldn't finish my meal. The takoyaki were drowning in fish flakes, and were not done all the way. There was hardly any squid in them, either. The Honey Roll was- huge. It looked like someone new was making the roll, because it wasn't cut evenly and had actually popped out of the package mid-transit. The Roll was- just bad. Bad flavor, and bad texture despite being a Roll with almost everything I like. I'm not really a picky eater, and even if I don't like something, I'll finish it. I just- couldn't with this. It was that bad!
Maybe I just got a bad Roll? If so, why is it listed as one of the more popular items?
Despite the bad food though, the Tai Tea was good! So thank...
Read moreI have been coming here for over 6 years. I always get the all you can eat sushi dinner and order pretty much exactly the same thing. I know what pieces I like and don’t like. They have ALWAYS been 5 star. Always. Probably the best I have ever had… over Ana over for years … until lately. What is sushi? It’s raw fish and rice. So what makes it so good? Proportion. Rice to fish proportion. I don’t need to tell anyone that post Covid inflation hits everyone … including Asahi it seems. The last 3 times I have been here the rice is massive and the fish slice smaller. I am greatly disappointed that they think the public won’t notice that they have cut corners buy putting a thin veneer of fish on a wonder bread loaf size ball of rice. Price is the same…. But I would rather pay more and get the proper proportion than pay the same and no enjoy the meal. I’m sorry this is how things are today. I can’t really blame them but I cannot endorse them as the best sushi any more. Hopefully the economy can improve in time and they can go back to proper proportion. Always a fan of them but It’s not the...
