Just checked out with $24 of my $100 dollar cart of groceries. By the time I got to the register I wanted to spend as little as possible at this location.
Store closes at 11pm. At 10:48 pm all the freezer lights went off. What the heck?!
I was down to my last 2 items. Was putting yogurt in cart as lights went out and needed a pint of ice cream. You can't shop glass fronted cases without LIGHT!
When I asked for the lights to be turned back on I was told they could not override the timer. Claimed all Food Lions programed freezer case to go off 10 min before close from a central office.
However, my neighborhood Food Lion dosen't do this. Harris Teeter never did this to me. They make a polite announcement 15, 10 and 5 minutes before closing. I'm not a child that needs the lights turned off for me to exit a room.
Very poor customer service and counter productive. My neighborhood FL may get that $75 dollars business tomorrow but Harris Teeter is more likely to.
Follow up: I stand corrected. After asking at my neighborhood store I was told this Food Lion's regional policy to "save energy" and it has been in effect for 6 months.
Store manager was not inclined to register a complaint up the chain so I sent a copy of my post to our neighborhood Facebook page and Nextdoor app to the Food Lion Headquarters.
(How do people feel about Food Lion's recent "energy saving" policy?
Regional Food Lion's lighting timers are turning off the motion activated lights in glass fronted frezzers/coolers 15 minutes prior to closing.
Lanes I can normally zip down as I scan products and prices become unshoppable. Like most people I pick up refrigerated and frozen items last.
I have no problem with dimming the big lights along the walls. Either to save money or remind people the store is closing soon.
However, shutting off glass case lights actually wastes energy and slows down shoppers. I needed to hold open multiple frezzer case doors while looking for items on my list.
Revenue was lost because the sales and advertising often prompt me to make impulse buys. I felt like a less valued customer because I shop between 10 and 11pm.
After struggling for 5 minutes I decided I'd rather finish my frozen food shopping at Harris Teeter where selection was better and customer service wasn't lowered for late shoppers.
I did bother to tell the manager and ask them to pass on the difficulty the "energy saving" caused to thier corporate office. He seemed unconcerned about lost customers as sales had increased 50% while this lighting has been in place.
Has anyone else been impacted by the lighting policy? Did you or would you bother to talk to...
Read moreFood lion, a breathtaking business that doesn't disappoint. This location especially has my heart. The reason? It is convenient considering it is within the reach of my real estate. If i need 4 or 5 or 10 frozen pizzas food lion is down the street patting my back like a kid petting a puppy. If my grandma has fallen down our stairs? Food lion has a medical section for quick fixer uppers. Or if i wanna throw a "rager" at my house when my parents are out of town? Food lion is yet there again patting my back with all the hardcore liquor and beer i could dream of. This food lion is just so convenient for quick and easy purchases. A feature of food lion I was so thankful for as a young toddler was the miniature shopping carts. This built and formed me into the independent man i am today. This feature is amazing and a key jumpstart to forming are youth to be reliant on themselves. I am so proud of the employees and managing that works at this food lion. My heart screams "THANK YOU"...
Read moreI would like to give a huge "Thank you" to Garrett in the bakery for such a well prepared surprise cake for my wife on her birthday. The cake was done wonderfully and beyond my expectations. I requested the basics for color and the border colors. I was told that Garrett was really good at designing cakes when given the opportunity to freestyle. So, I believed in the employee that was in the bakery on the 26th of August 2017. She was right and Garrett called me on the day to get some additional information for what I wanted. I just told him " Do your thing, and just let your creativity and skill free".... My wife couldn't stop looking at the cake in amazement and didn't want to cut the cake. It finished off her birthday right and I couldn't thank Garrett enough, "Thank you".
I will definitely be coming back here for my sone birthday cake in two weeks and for my daughters birthday cake...
