So I wanted to try something new. So I googled some BBQ places that weren't too far away from Va Beach. So I decided on this place Alpha Pitt smoker's BBQ. Upon arrival it seemed really small, but I was pleasantly surprised when I walked in. It was clean and modern, it had a full bar and a lounge area, and regular tables and chairs. No Booths! Which made me happy. The servers were great and made me feel welcome and recommended that I try the bacon wrapped jalapenos smoked and stuffed with cream cheese. So I got that with the BBQ lumpia and cheese curds. This was just to start of course. The Jalapeno's were ok they were kinda mushy but the flavor was good. The lumpia was lacking flavor as well it was mostly potato and I couldn't really taste the brisket in the lumpia. The sauce that was served with the lumpia was pretty good but really sweet. Now for the main... I got the brisket taco and I could have chosen from different styles but the one that interested me was the citrus style. It had brisket with a citrus sauce with fresh made pico and cheese. But I didn't want the cheese. On my first impression of the dish I was shocked! This taco was huge! I couldn't wait to sink my teeth into this behemoth! Upon the first bite I got a sweet and smoky sensation that was delightful. The brisket was very tender and the pico was fresh and bright paired along with the citrus sauce. For my side I got some of the most amazing baked beans I've ever had. They were Root Beer baked beans! I loved these I would go back just for these! Overall I was satisfied with Alpha Pitt smokers. There are things they could improve on but overall it was a good experience.

Noticed Alpha Pitt from across the street when I took my sons for donuts at Donutz on a Stick. I'm always game to try new BBQ joints. The fact that it's veteran owned was also a motivating factor. A work friend recommended it as well. I went for WingDayz (20% off wings on Wednesdays). Ordered the 12 piece, then upgraded to a combo since the smoked veggies with balsamic demiglaze sounded good. Split my wing seasoning between the lemon pepper dry rub and the golden bbq. I'm not typically a fan of South Carolina mustard style bbq sauce, but the Golden BBQ was good. The veggies were a mixture of mushrooms, broccoli, and zucchini. The wings are par-smoked in applewood for an hour then fried to order. Everything was delicious. They only draw back is no drink fountain, so I don't think they offer free refills. They also need to provide more napkins when they bring the entrees. Eating BBQ is a messy endeavor.

Being a big “Q” fan (I’m visiting from NC the last few months), I’ve been all over the Hampton Roads area on a quest for great BBQ. I’ve found a number of good ones, but Alpha takes good BBQ and fixins and elevates them to another level. Pork and brisket are juicy, flavorful and just the right about of smoke. The slaw good but made great with a unique touch of citrus. The root beer baked beans a bit sweet, but a really different (but yummy) flavor profile. Do NOT miss the gumbo! Rich, hearty and just enough spice to let you know it’s gumbo - delish. I may have the BBQ sauce on the side next time for the pulled pork and brisket as I’m more about the meat than the sauce but all in all a great meal; about the best Q I’ve had since I’ve been in the area. Oh and the service is fun, friendly and really helpful; thx for the recommendations Salynne!

A local BBQ Spot I recently visited Alpha Pitt Smokers, a veteran-owned BBQ restaurant, with high expectations of enjoying heavy portions of great quality smoked meat. Unfortunately, my experience left much to be desired. While the waitress was friendly, she seemed ill-informed about the menu and the flavors offered.

I had initially planned on ordering the lemon pepper wings, as I believe you can't go wrong with wings at a BBQ joint. However, the waitress suggested the spicy wings, which I hadn't noticed on the menu before. To my disappointment, the wings turned out to be just okay, lacking any noticeable spice or lemon pepper flavor. It was almost as if the flavors were non-existent.

Additionally, I ordered the pick meat 3-platter with two sides: sour cream and onion potato salad and jalapeño Mac and cheese. If you're a big eater, I would not recommend this platter. In my opinion, it felt more suitable for a kids' menu. The smoked meat had a distinct microwave-like taste, and surprisingly, there was no noticeable smoke smell in the air, neither inside nor outside the restaurant. This lack of smoke ambiance should have been a red flag for me right from the start. Moreover, the meat was smothered in a generic store-bought BBQ sauce that could have easily been labeled as "smoked" on the bottle.

All in all, my eating experience at Alpha Pitt Smokers was far from great. The restaurant failed to deliver on its promise of heavy portions of quality smoked meat. The lackluster flavors, absence of a genuine smoky aroma, and the reliance on store-bought BBQ sauce left me thoroughly disappointed. I hope the restaurant takes this feedback constructively and works towards improving the overall dining experience for...

I read other reviews & decided to give it a try. Plz believe - all those positive reviews are true! My fiancée & I split an appetizer of BBQ Lumpia which was tasty. Very filling and the shell was light and crispy. My only complaint would be that it wasn't as meaty (filling mostly vegetables) . This being my 1st dish on my 1st visit I didn't think anything of if it, but after all my other dishes arrived it was a little lackluster. The 2 tacos we ordered were unbelievably good and large. They are on 8 inch flour tortillas I ordered the citrus brisket taco which was very meaty and tender with a light citrus cream sauce to add a unique zing. My fiancée also ordered a taco, hers was the classic with shredded pork. We exchanged bites of each, hers was also meaty and delicious. She added fries to her order which are so tasty and addictive. I added the Smoked Meat Green Chili. I've tried many chilies and this one is not to be missed - very filling and not just with beans (although it does have beans) but with nice chunks of meat. Plus it has a delicious smoke/pepper taste that made me wish I ordered the large side. The restaurant was very clean, we sat at the bar which had multiple TVs airing sports & news. Plus, since it was Saturday, they had live music. Staff was friendly and helpful. Dont sleep on this hidden gem.. This will not be our only visit. Glad to see another great restaurant open on Sundays - huge...
