We recently built a new house and budgeted for living and dining room furniture. The build took six months so we had plenty of time to shop. My wife and I combed through over a dozen retail furniture stores, and there were perhaps TWO where we returned to look a second time. I could name them but I won't ... all the big names here in Tidewater Virginia, plus a number of "discount" outlets.
So much J U N K out there, almost all of it at outrageous prices for the quality! I mean, staples, pressed board, cheap fabrics and ugly styles. Not North Carolina Furniture! All told we must have spent eight to ten hours on three different visits with Susan patiently answering our numerous questions. Everything in her store on Denbeigh Avenue in Newport News was solid and attractive. And there is a lot of selection on display too.
Leaving North Carolina Furniture showroom to look at yet another retail chain just reinforced our initial impressions: We could be satisified with any piece of furniture in the place, assured of getting the long lasting quality we wanted for our retirement home. The competition just was not close. Not even close.
Research Canadel and Flexsteel on the internet. One creates hand-crafted wood tables and chairs in North America, and the other offers furniture built to last. I challenge you to find better. The items we found at North Carolina Furniture are heirloom quality.
I guarantee you ... the other stores were perfectly willing to take our thousands of dollars and deliver absolute, made overseas, ugly junk.
I could not take my eyes off the Canadel farmhouse dining table, and while my wife thoroughly checked all the sofas, I made the mistake of "testing" the swivel recliner rocker. Careful! You see what happened to me.
Prices were competitive while certainly not the cheapest. But we were given generous terms for such a large purchase, Susan was a terrific help, always available but never in our face about things. After we signed, she kept in touch with us on an almost weekly basis, notifying us when the factory began and finished our order, the arrival in her showroom warehouse, and coordinating the entire delivery and setup in our new home. On time, as promised.
Can you tell we are pleased? You betcha. We give a whole-hearted endorsement of Susan and North Carolina Furniture.

Read moreThree years ago, we worked with Susan Vineyard at North Carolina Furniture & Mattress to furnish our home in Williamsburg. From the very moment we met Susan, we felt that she listened to our vision for our home, our wants, and needs. Susan conducted a site visit, took measurements and photos, and created a PowerPoint presentation that included design recommendations for our family room, dining room, home office, and bedrooms. Through her creativity and expertise, Susan did an amazing job.
Recently, we decided to redesign a guest bedroom into a den as well as transition from a queen size bed to a king size bed in our primary bedroom. Without hesitation, we went to see our friends at North Carolina Furniture & Mattress. Again, Susan made great recommendations for our den and Elizabeth helped us with the selection of our new bed. We just took delivery of our beautiful king bed and we couldn’t be happier. From start to finish, everyone we have worked with was fantastic. Susan and Elizabeth made great recommendations and helped us through the selection and purchase of our new pieces. The delivery of the new bed was managed by Michael and he was very accommodating with the schedule given that I had to first donate the old bed and have the mattress/boxspring recycled/disposed. Jermaine and Damian provided the utmost care in the delivery and Annie followed up after the delivery to ensure our complete satisfaction. Bottomline, buying new furniture is expensive. You want to work with professionals that listen to their clients, offers high quality furniture, delivers great customer service and follows up after the sale. That’s North Carolina Furniture & Mattress! Highly,...
Read moreI am very unhappy with my furniture purchase. I was misled on the fabric (probably unintentionally). If the couch wasn't so expensive, I would get rid of it immediately. The salesperson was very nice and I told her we wanted a very durable, pet friendly fabric, that was washable. Washable was very important since I was getting a cream couch. I stuck with the fabrics she told me were pet friendly and washable. We brought the fabric sample home and loved it. I rubbed it on the dogs, and the hair did not stick to it. The couch arrived and I loved it but noticed the hair was sticking to it (this did not happen on the fabric sample). Fast forward to now, I wanted to remove one of the covers to wash. I did not see washing instructions so I looked up the wash8ng instructions online for Revolution Performance and found out only the Revolution Plus could be washed in the washing machine. The Revolution Performance was spot clean only. I specifically told the salesperson I wanted a fully washable fabric that could be removed and put in the washer and she told me to look at the Revolution fabrics and a few others. I was not told there were differences within that brand and the samples did not have washing instructions on them. Now I am stuck with a couch with fabric that can't be washed, one in which the hair sticks to it like velcro, and now the fabric is pilling. I am very unhappy with this purchase! Be mindful the samples they give you to bring home my be a little different than what goes on the furniture. Also be sure to verify what they are telling you about the fabric by...
