Really, really poor institution on many levels. Dealt with a lot of like-minded xenophobic ignorant individuals for an extremely expensive price tag in a liberal arts environment. Had a professor who said N**ger in class multiple times, dealt with tone policing and student rights violations by the administration and student life crew who would tell you "you can't say that." (but racial slurs in art are OK...) Students even believe the school is abusive, but, for some reason they stay.
They told me to my face I had to be 'careful' how i talked about the school by student life-- so I've been very careful to write a review of my experiences everywhere I can go. Reputation cannot be falsified, although they're trying very very hard. Go to a local CC to get a better quality education than here for a lot cheaper and to avoid the headache. The print shop is non functional with uneven inking surfaces, illustration techniques being taught are sub-par and are not in touch with the current job market. They said they're grouping up with wacom to get experimental product, where is it? they say they pay for students to go to SGCI, registration has passed.
When i withdrew from the next semesters worth of courses, the registrar attempted to have me sign a sheet that would have had me to withdraw within the last week of the semester (with wonderful bolds and underlines from the very professional registrar) , although i was finishing out that semesters courses. It would've failed me, and altered their retention statistics. It would have made financial aid difficult for me to receive, as they would notify them i withdrew, but my last transcript would be full of F's.
I do very much appreciate the letters I've been receiving even now at my family address, i just wish they would leave me alone. it's getting a little odd. I owe them no money, have no obligation to them, but I'm getting letters telling me they understand that I'm not returning, but, i should make an appointment with my student advisor asap...
i urge every prospective individual to get in touch with the CHEA, and department of education to get full statistics, graduation success numbers, to read every past student run blog, review, and negative news story. They're mostly accurate to my opinion and belief. Where there's smoke, there's fire, trust your gut and stay far away. Honestly if they attempt to pursue me for writing this review, I can't wait to fight for my rights to openly discuss my experiences through...
Read moreI’m going to be honest, i’d heard amazing things about this school and was ecstatic to join. there are so many amazing instructors at the school, and it’s a shame, because the school is incapable of managing ANYTHING. I have been accidentally unenrolled, i have been randomly taken off my advisors course load so i got no important emails for registration, when trying to add a class, the systems straight up wouldn’t allow it and i am now 5 weeks behind in a class because they couldn’t figure out how to add me to the class. my advisor failed to get me into a required class my first year (told me nothing about it) and now expects me to take a summer class due to his short comings. He also told me to take a PCC class and let him know when I was done, i did so and emailed him that i was done, he added about three people to the email including the dean to SCOLD ME for doing so without consulting him first. we had had numerous discussions in seperate meetings to talk about this. When i told him we had discussed this he got so embarrassed he sent me a rage email referring me to a new advisor (passing me off to someone else because he got embarrassed i called him out with the dean in the email).
now, i have a $50 late fee on my account and am unable to register for the next term because “i haven’t payed my tuition”. i looked at why that was, and it turns out i was CHARGED TWICE. This school is a joke and every day serves a new challenge due to the incompetence of staff. I plan to transfer, i’m not taking any summer classes or paying extra money because this school is incapable of handling itself.
This school is EXPENSIVE and has no reason to be incapable of hiring any competent staff or even a safe amount of security. students have been physically attacked by the homeless addicts that live just outside the school, and very often I show up to the school and see that security is nowhere to be seen.
Once I had lost an ipad but was told it was with security, i had to wait about 15 minutes because the one man on shift wasn’t even in the school, and once he arrived he had realized they lost my ipad and had to run around the entire school to find it.
this is not even to mention the fact i got accomodations through AES that the school does not enforce. I had an instructor who simply chose to not accept my accommodations (he officially accepted them then but wouldn’t allow them to be used by me during the span...
Read moremy partner and i have attended many public Artist lectures that are held over the summer. these are free for the public to attend, though they do not have enough chairs to fit all of portland. please plan ahead - it is broadcast via a live streaming utility for those unable to attend or unable to sit in one of the available chairs on site. as luck would have it, we have been able to claim two of these seats for several of the talks and would like to report that most of them have been informative, as well as enjoyable. i especially would recommend a chair in any of the rows towards the back. otherwise, you will be looking slightly upwards, towards the north, to see the projections. this most recent trip, we braved the front row and left with sore necks. it was no fault of the artist. we are solely responsible for having looked at the projections, and for taking the open seats. having said that, if you sit near the back, you can see and...
