Ming's Upholstery — Local services in Poway

Years ago I took in my beautiful wing back chair to be reupholstered at Mings at the Poway location. I brought in my own upholstery fabric because I found exactly what I wanted at an upholstery store. It had a delicate acorns and oak leaves English country pattern on olive and cream fabric made buy a well known company. I bought ample material so there wouldn't be a shortage. I asked Ming if he could build me an ottoman with a flip top for storage and on casters to go with the chair. He was confident they could fill my order. I was really pleased with the finished product. I used the chair for years and was glad I had the ottoman made to go with it. I communicated what I wanted and Ming's nailed it! I wished I had bought a bright green, fushia or other raw silk for the interior of the ottoman to give it an interesting contrast, because they used a plainer material which was serviceable but not anything special. But that was my oversight for not discussing in advance. It's been about 14 years and I'm considering getting it reupholstered once again, as I'm ready for a change and have the seat pillow refilled to give it more loft. Mings treated me well years ago and I would definitely use them again. They also were reasonably priced as well. The power seat adjustment motor on my 1995 Toyota Avalon failed, leaving the seat back in a reclined position. Due to the age of the vehicle, Toyota of Poway was unable to obtain a replacement part or restore the seat back to an upright position. Needless to say, this made driving very difficult. The service department referred me to Ming's Upholstery, saying they had a good track record of success solving these types of problems. I left the car with them overnight, and was very relieved the next day to hear that they had coaxed the seat back to an upright position despite the damage to the motor. The repair cost was very reasonable. I highly recommend Ming's Upholstery for their great service, talent, "can do" attitude, and pricing.

Returned to Ming's Upholstery on August 5th. Bought seat covers for my 1988 Toyota 4-Runner from Dash Designs. The driver's side seat had springs protruding from long wear and tear. I asked Ming's to repair the springs and install the seat covers. They did a terrific job. The seat covers fit like a glove over the originals, and the fabric is snug. Very happy with the result but their communication and customer service needs much improvement. This is why I marked them down. first off when I called the the recording states that you can email and send pictures to get an estimate. I did that and never heard anything. A week later I walked into the shop. Picked out material and ordered. Received a call roughly 2 weeks later brought my ottoman in since they had my material. I was told that it would be ready by the middle of the next week. I was in the area and checked in at that time. It had not even been started and was told that it should be ready by the end of the week. Never heard anything. I called on Monday (Oct. 16) and was told that it would be ready around 2:00 PM. I arrived right before closing time and do you think that it was ready? HA!! The woman was very apologetic and every time gave excuses about being "very" busy then offered me free delivery as a compensation. The quality of work is phenomenal but I think that I will be taking my work somewhere else...
