I dropped my dog off for 9 days as a first time boarder. He is 10yrs old and has never been boarded in his life, needless to say I was very worried. My dog has separation anxiety, especially when he is dropped off places and he is a very sensitive pup. He needs lots of patience and understanding.
I called every day for the first 2-3 days to check in, they were very nice, helpful and I didn’t feel judged for my calling so much, they actually encouraged it. The girls at the front were so welcoming and just honestly a joy. So up beat. I also felt like when I dropped him off she listened to all my needs and worries and write down exactly what I wanted so they could take care of him the best way for the dog. They wanted to keep everything the same that they could.
I boarded in the standard boarding package for 9 days, he was to have outdoor time for potty and daycare. He also had medicine that he needed to take. There was a bath that was complimentary but my dog is reactive to baths so I requested he not have one in which they did honor.
One thing I was worried about is what happens if there is a dog fight. Dogs fight just like people fight and they can just plain out not get along with a certain dog just like us. They said they watch the first timers much more closely and if anything happens they assess if it is one dog they aren’t liking or maybe the dog isn’t fit for daycare. They try to put your dog in a daycare with different dogs and if the dog still doesn’t do well they don’t do daycare but individual time out with the dog and outdoor time instead.
I was able to view my dog via the camera in all rooms but the outdoor area. They were awesome enough to put him in a kennel that was camera view as there are kennels that are not in camera view for standard boarding. (Also note that the next package up dogs are not viewable on camera, the kennels aren’t set up for front view, I looked at all the rooms.) I was able to see my dog leaving his kennel and I also caught him getting his morning meds as I requested. I was never able to catch him in the daycare area, it’s possible I wasn’t looking at the right time, next time I will call and see when he is scheduled to go in so I can watch him. I also watched the employees handling some the dogs on the camera with such care and needless to say my pup can be a bit frustrating, he likes to run through legs, especially if you’re putting him in a kennel. I watched as a caretaker was trying to put him away and he kept running out, they never got frustrated with him and forced him into the cage aggressively, they just patiently kept setting him in there until they could get the door closed without smashing him with the door lol.
When I picked up my dog he was calm, not stressed, he wasn’t cowering or acting like he had a terrible time or like he was petrified from his experience. He was very content and happy. That impressed me and I was honestly surprised with how bad his separation anxiety can be. They gave me a run down of his visit, how he did from start to end and let me know he was involved in zero altercations.
I would absolutely board here again, without any question. I would also highly recommend this place to everyone. They truly do care for the dogs and they want them to be comfortable. They also understand that this is scary for them so they try very hard to nurture them through the process instead of herding them like cattle and get frustrated with them when they are scared or don’t want to do something.
Thank you...
Read moreI've taken my dog Foxy to Dog Pawz Crossroads for both cage-less doggie day care and cage-less boarding. All instances have been nothing but positive experiences for both Foxy and myself. I chose Dog Pawz for the Crossroads location, the free 24/7 Doggie Cam, the price, free baths (after 3 nights) and their cage-less option so that my dog could socialize. The longest I've left Foxy was for 6 nights/7 days and there was not an issue the entire time. Everything was perfect & I picked her up happy & freshly bathed with her free bath. Before taking her there the first time, I made sure I had copies of the required shots and dropped them off, along with the completed Dog Pawz first time registration form, as it clearly states to do on their website. The forms are easily downloaded from their website. I was appreciative that they are so thorough in making sure all dogs have up to date shots verified, etc. The staff was friendly & calm, thorough in setting up the appointment and excited to meet Foxy. They asked me about her demeanor (energetic or not, etc) and age so that they could appropriately place her with dogs of similar qualities & size, which I thought was very smart and considerate. They asked if she should sleep overnight inside a kennel, or, out in the open on a bed, and I thought it nice to have the option. I was informed that she would be taken out every 2 hours during the day for potty walks, but that they keep mops around for any accidents. Other than the attentive staff & peace of mind, the best part is by far the free Doggie-Cam. From anywhere I have access to the internet, I can log on 24 hours a day and see what's going on. I had trouble opening the program in FireFox the very first time, but then noticed the instruction sheet states it's designed for Internet Explorer. When I opened it in Explorer, I had no problem at all & never have since. I could even choose to focus on the camera specific to her room, instead of all four cameras. What I saw surprised me... In a good way: Not only do the dogs play with each other, or nap together, or give each other kisses, but throughout the day, there are people in there actually playing with them and giving attention to the doggies as well! I know that she is receiving love while I'm away, not just safely stuck somewhere...and she looked happy. :) All I can say for some of the bad reviews I've read is that stuff happens with dogs..it IS a cage-less environment and everything has pros & cons. I know that any of the employees there would take every measure to make sure trouble dogs are isolated, or, injured dogs cared for. I personally feel it is the responsibility of owners to know if their dog doesn't react well to others, which may result in harm on other "innocent" dogs, or ultimately to themselves from reactions by other dogs. Now that Foxy has a loyalty program card, I plan to take her there at least once every week or two for socialization & grooming in-between longer overnight trips. This is a really neat place in the Crossroads (easily accessible just off the highway) and I recommend it to all dog owners. I have complete peace of mind...
Read morePosting this in hopes that the owner will contact me. I made an appointment for Vincent to get groomed and specified that he needs a deshedding and nail trim. I told them during my booking phone call that I work 730-4 so I would take them up on the day boarding option after his grooming appointment supposedly at 9 am. Upon dropping Vincent off in the morning, I’m told that the groomer will contact me and ask me what I want…. I work in an operating room (I’m scrubbed in and can’t have my phone) at a busy hospital so this already wasn’t ideal especially considering I already told them what he would need in the appointment. By 1 pm I hadn’t heard anything. I then called, and asked why I hadn’t heard anything from them.. I got an excuse and found Vincent hadn’t been touched yet. I told her again what I wanted and then asked what time I’d be picking him up… shouldn’t this info be recorded when I make the appointment? When I walked in to pick Vincent up the people at the front desk were gossiping, briefly stopped to ask who I’m here for and what card reader to use, then got back to gossip. Leash in my hand Vincent and I were told goodbye and escorted out the door. I had just gotten done with a busy call weekend, so I’ve been ignoring my phone glad to have a break. Since coming off do not disturb after a few days I’ve received multiple texts and voicemails and an email (all with a mean girl attitude) saying I didn’t pay my bill. Funny how I can be contacted by email when you need my money but not when you need to ask me what kind of grooming you should be doing to my dog that is currently in your possession. The last voicemail is stating that it will be sent to collections in 3 business days lol in one week from the time of service. Obviously you saw me pay, then waved and thanked me and said goodbye, so the rudeness is crazy considering this error is from neglect of an employee and not the customer. Their policy says bills will be sent to collections after 90 days, so I can only assume someone that is afraid their boss will find out they messed up is just making a threat. . Vincent has also been super strange after picking him up like he’s upset. He’s also been limping which is new and lethargic. He took a long pee break when I picked him up at 430 so who knows how long he was ignored. When I got him inside our home he drank two full bowls of water. So was he not given water either?? Please contact me if...
