I just read a recent review and agree: Costelloās Ace in Purcellville may be good for nuts, bolts and birdseed, but donāt buy Craftsman, Milwaukee, or any other power tools there. They have a āno returnā policy on power tools, even when they deliver faulty products. For Craftsman, go to Lowes; for Milwaukee, go to Home Depot. No hassles there. I bought a Craftsman riding lawn mower via the Ace website and it was delivered to Costelloās Ace in Purcellville. Why did I buy from Ace and not Lowes? I wanted to support our local Ace retailer in the neighboring town. After picking it up, we discovered that the left front guide wheel brace on the mower deck was bent out. Neither Costelloās Ace nor Craftsman took responsibility however, assuming that it was our fault. Any idea how difficult it is to bend this brace that is welded on without damaging the plastic guide wheel or the connecting bolts, or even leaving a scratch? These are supposed to be durable parts. We retired the same Craftsman model after 8 years and nothing like this ever happened. The Craftsman customer service advised me to bring it to the nearest service center, which was across state lines and offered no other solution. That would entail renting a trailer and spending time and money trying to have an issue rectified that was not our fault. Then they said that any issues would have to be taken up with the retailer, in this case, Costelloās Ace of Purcellville. The Ace manager initially resisted, but then came to our home to look at the riding lawn mower intending to find a resolution before going on vacation the next day. That was 2 weeks ago and I never heard back. I was ignored. I had requested a refund within their otherwise 30 day policy, but no response from them. After reaching out to the Ace store manager a number of times without response, I decided to write this review. I will buy my nuts, bolts and birdseed elsewhere. Horrible customer service from both Ace...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI thought Iād never say this. I also thought Iād never write a google review about anything. I thought Iād be the ālast man standingā at Nicholās Hardware. But⦠Yāall: Ace is THE PLACE!!! Nicholās continues to lose the āold timersā and all the small town feels that came with them (and their austere facial expressions married with unfailing, infinite knowledge). The charming atmosphere that set Nicholās apart from the chain stores has seeped through the decades old floor boards into a slow grave. Not to mention, the less than enthusiastic staff are as helpful as a Home Depot employee at closing time. But take heart!! (Sing with me now) Itās all about that Ace! Bout that Ace⦠not Nicholās⦠The staff is friendly! Iām always greeted with gregarious salutations. āGood afternoon, Mam.ā āHow can I help you, Mamā They are eager to assist, help problem solve, and even offer suggestions if it means sending me to another shop. Returns are easy. Information is readily given. Prices are competitive with the big box stores! I cannot say enough good things about this store. I hope the good times continue to roll at Ace. For now⦠Ace is my place to...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe staff here are all friendly and eager to help out. I've been in probably a dozen times since they opened and it's been fantastic having them in town. I had such a positive experience today I had to get around to giving a good review.
Walked in with a German-Made Saxophone stand that had a screw and nut go missing from one of the folding legs.
The screw and nut were not standard size. But the employee who helped me went above and beyond to spend 10 minutes cutting the screw down to the right length, and shaving a nut down to fit in its slot. All of that for $2.00 worth of hardware.
If you're into BBQ/Grilling, their selection is fantastic. Lots of sauces, rubs, charcoal, wood selections, and accessories.
It is a smaller space, so you're not going to find everything under the sun like you might at a larger store. But for every day hardware/DIY needs they've got what I need 95%...
