Went to have some engraving done. I showed up 15 minutes after opening to find a locked door. A closed door isn’t welcoming to visitors, let alone business. The younger woman who opened it for me appeared and sounded annoyed with my having a customer so early in the day (10:15am). I explained the engraving I needed done. She wrote it out. As I read it upside down, it was very unclear. I clarified it with her and she assured me the engraver would understand and that the instructions she wrote were sufficient .
Five days later I received a phone call, asking for clarification because what she wrote was unclear to the engraver.
Two weeks after the initial drop off, I called and was told my request isn’t ready but it is being worked on. I spoke with an older woman who said it should be ready next week and that two and a half weeks is “like two weeks”. She quickly ended the call.
I immediately received a call back telling me my order IS ready and that they haven’t had a chance to review completed orders yet today. How much business do they do? Even with my ticket number, how could they not tell it was done when they checked? Miscommunication all around on every aspect so far.
The finished product was an addition to a previous engraving and was supposed to br identical in detail. I was assured it would be. Though the job was completed in time albeit the confusion, the two sets of engraving are far from identical, with the newer one appearing bigger and wider, as if a larger tool was used.
Though it was fairly priced, we weren’t completely satisfied. The craftsman ship is okay, but not great and not what we wanted. The miscommunication surrounding every aspect of our encounter, rudeness of staff, and quality of the product fell short of our expectations. We won’t...
Read moreFull disclosure: I'm a local artist/jewelry designer who shows his work at Johnson Jewelers.
This family owned and operated jewelry shop has been in business for over 120 years. They are a "full service" shop, which means that they have a gemologist, designer, and goldsmith on site who are capable of creating from scratch or fixing anything you can imagine.
The jewelry business is a very competitive, and they wouldn't still be here 120 years later if they didn't offer better service and competitive pricing than anybody in town.
And they play a very long game. Unlike a salesperson at a mall shop who needs to make a commission today so that they have a paycheck this week, this family wants to treat you so well that your grandchildren will return to them 20 years later to buy their engagement rings.
Lastly, they are committed to improving our downtown business community and actively support several local artists like myself who display our work there.
I can't say enough good things about the Johnson family. But you don't have to believe me. Just find the big giant clock on the street downtown and drop in someday and you'll find out that they're as good or better as I've...
Read moreOutstanding, in every way. I inherited my grandmother's 1950s wedding ring set and wanted to use it for myself -- but it needed sizing and, I learned, had all kinds of damage (it's only 60 years old, right?). From the first text, jeweler Amy Johnson (I think she's Johnson?) was helpful, communicative, and honest about the damage to the set, possible limitations in repair, and best practices to bring it back to life. The store was very well controlled in COVID times, and Amy turned around the ring set, looking good as new -- no small feat! -- in about a month. The (now welded together) ring is gorgeous and bright. I love it, and I know it's as beautiful as it was when my grandmother received it. It was not inexpensive, but it was work done...
