I recently purchased a mattress from Slumberland. Short story: If you want quality customer service, shop elsewhere. The franchise owner personally sold me a mattress. The display model was soft and pliable and I liked it very much. I bought it and had to wait a week to have it delivered. The delivery fee was a bit steep considering I only live a couple blocks away. The mattress I received was the correct brand and model, but it was as hard as a slab of rock. I slept on it for two nights hoping that maybe it was just me, but alas, the mattress is still so firm and hard that it causes my back physical pain to sleep on it.
I called him and asked to exchange it for a different mattress that I had already picked out (one that was more expensive, mind you) and he matter-of-factly told me that he "isn't in the business to exchange mattresses" and that there's "nothing he can do for me". I tried to explain to him that the product he sold me is causing me physical pain, but he just kept saying that there's "nothing he can do for me"- a broken record- typical for a person who has no interest in actually providing customer service.
So, now, I have to buy a mattress topper from somewhere else to try to help alleviate the problem. I called the Slumberland corporate office and they told me that since the Quincy location is a franchise, there's not a lot they could do about this situation except file a customer complaint and send it to the store (what good will that do) on my behalf.
All-in-all, this has been a pretty bad experience and I'm stuck with a product that isn't right for me and the franchise owner, Ron, is completely unwilling to do anything about it to help me even though I've offered to bring back the mattress myself and pay the difference for a different one altogether. I'm not sure what kind of business this joker is running, but it's a pretty bad one.
Be safe and shop elsewhere. I'll never recommend this place to...
Read moreI had a great shopping experience at Slumberland in Quincy.
I'd been looking for a new recliner for my mother for a while. She'd been in a very old, worn one for years, and had recently taken to using extra seat cushions in order to sit up higher and help her to get out of the chair more easily.
So I came in with questions, hoping to figure out the best chair for her. I spoke with Rick Blonigen, who turned out to be the store manager, and found him to be very helpful. We talked about bases for the chair: some manufacturers make a slightly taller one. We talked about the firmness of the seat, and he suggested one that had memory foam: it's more firm and yet contours to you for comfort. And we talked about price.
Turns out he was able to put me in a clearance chair with the memory foam seat, and he was able to switch out a more expensive swivel recliner base (that was already on the chair) for the taller rocker base that I preferred. And while he was willing to trade out that base with another chair in the store, he allowed me to order in the base, which worked better for postponing how soon the chair would be ready. That way I was able to pick it up closer to Christmas.
When I went to pick up the chair (my choice to keep the cost down, compared to delivery), Rick personally showed me how the chair came apart and would be put back together. It was only taking the back off the chair, but it allowed it to fit in the back of my SUV without any trouble. He even wrapped the bottom of the chair in plastic and put it in my car for me.
I was able to get it in place and reassembled at Mom's house without any trouble. And she loves the chair for comfort and for the ease of getting out of it, especially compared to what she had been using.
Highly recommend Slumberland and Rick Blonigen...
Read moreI purchased a sectional couch from the clearance section of the store (the new location: Quincy Mall) and was pleasantly surprised. I had seen a lot of negative reviews but decided to give them a try. The price was a bit over my budget so I chose to do the 12 month 0% interest payment plan. The sectional was originally in the $3,200 range before it went on clearance. With tax, protection plan and delivery I pay around $1,300 total. The man that helped me was very nice and not pushy at all. He even talked with the delivery team to get my couch to me later that day!(i do live in Quincy) If you order off of the floor, delivery will take longer. Usually clearance is delivered faster. The two young men that delivered it were great! they had to walk a little way up my alley then up outside steps (18 of them!) but they had a great attitude the whole time. I really hope since this business is now Corporately owned and in a new location, that the service will be much better than it was when it was out by Wal-mart with...
