Purchased a PS3 and several games and had problems from the start. Originally he gave me the wrong power cords so I couldn’t power it on. After returning then next day I received the right cords and fired it up to discover a jailbroken PlayStation loaded with custom firmware—I didn’t understand the significance of this until I went to update the machine (it wouldn’t log into PSN or use many features without updating) and the whole system bricked because of the incompatible jailbreak software.
I researched online how to fix this and after ordering several parts online and following several guides I was able to wipe the corrupted hard drive and restore factory settings so the PlayStation network was useable and the update made the blue ray drive function properly. I believe that If you are selling a jailbroken system, you definitely need to make the buyer aware so they know they have some work on their hands. I was willing to let all of this slide because I know when you buy secondhand you take chances and maybe he just wasn’t that knowledgeable about PlayStations BUT when I went to play some of the games I purchased I realize some of them didn’t work.
That was when I became truly frustrated because not only did the system not work as intended, but the games didn’t either. The receipt said you’re allowed to return items for store credit so I returned the non-functioning games for a couple other ones. One of the replacement games didn’t work either, and when I brought it back the next day, he told me that he would no longer do exchanges or returns and that I would have to buy back the game if I wanted to do another return. I told him if he tested these items in store before someone brought them home this whole issue could be avoided, but he told me they work when he tested them and that’s good enough for him. He told me it must be an error with my system, but I told him I was using the system that I bought from him (backwards compatible version) and it didn’t work and I have a second PlayStation 3 (super slim) and it didn’t work in that either.
Selling jailbroken systems and not honoring returns for discs that don’t play just aren’t good business practices. I like to spend money on local businesses when I’m able, but if this is the type of customer service offered then you’re better off, spending your money online at Amazon Because at least if you buy something online, you can return it without if it doesn’t work or if the item was tampered with (jailbroken).
The video trading company was an institution in Redwing—that’s why I even care enough to leave a review. Because over 20 years ago I was buying Nintendo 64s and Dreamcasts from that company with my dad I hoped I could do something similar with my kids but the new ownership is not the same as the old and it’s clear in the service. I’m sure some others can go there and have a positive experience but don’t be surprised if you go there and whatever you buy turns out...
Read moreThe guy takes advantage of lil kids and their inexperience of shopping… I brought my boy to trade with the guy and my son brings 2 ps4 controllers and a keyboard the guy gives him 6 dollars or 12 store credit. Then he goes next day one controller is up for sale for 20 and the other 40 and the keyboard the guy now uses him self. That’s one issue the other is he now sold my son a used rc car for 25 dollars and some change that’s for sale right now 10 dollars. My son is 10 years old and this guy knew exactly what he was doing! He high-bucks used items and takes complete advantage of those who don’t really know better. A wolf in sheep’s clothing. I went down there and tried to make it right- like you ripped my son off!!told him to take his shit used rc car that you can buy new for less and keep the money. My son isn’t allowed in that store anymore and I suggest parents keep your kids away from this...
