My Porsche 911/997.1 C4S had several prior owners and had not been well maintained. The engine had developed bore scoring and I contacted Flat 6 Innovations (FSI). A new engine was available; Chris’s German Auto is the designated FSI installer for the PNW. My local shop had identified several other issues that needed to be addressed as well. The process started. Each step revealed additional items that required attention. Throughout the duration, Tyler at Chris’s kept me updated on everything pertinent to repairs and the engine replacement itself. Chris himself drove the car 100 miles so the first engine break-in oil change could be done before it was returned to me. The car is now far better than new and working perfectly. Chris et al are masters at their trade. They aim for perfection, and hit the target 🎯. Photos: old engine; new engine; attachments underway; the beast ready for the drive home.

Chris’ German is an excellent, reliable shop that does high quality work on Porsche. I had a need for replacement seals due to a slow leak on my PDK. They did a good job and it cost far less than the dreaded PDK replacement that Porsche dealers recommend for my issue. Update: After a track event there was an issue with blue smoke at acceleration. Chris’ German diagnosed it and found the ring seal at the transmission cover plate was failing. This is rare, but can happen. While the wait for the part from Germany was long they did an expert job in getting it repaired, tested, and out the door. This is the kind of repair that the dealer would say, “you need an entire new transmission-$20K please. I paid a fraction of that at Chris German.

After more than 20 years of beinng No Longer Available (NLA) Porsche finally produced a batch of 38 new "early" dashes for the 924/944 cars. Chris's was the only local shop willing or able to do an entire dash swap on my 1988 924S. A couple months ago, Chris's also repaired some major fuel tank issues, door handle issues, and some other irritating issues that has been bothering me about this car for a long time. As always, they did a great job. Always a pleasure to work with Chris's German.

I came to Chris’s German Auto with an easy lay up for them to be heroes and they proved right away to be experts at their craft. I purchased a Porsche out of town and before driving a single mile I had a very well known independent Porsche shop in the Phoenix, AZ area (that’s been in business for 50 years) do preventative maintenance just so that I was starting off fresh with this new vehicle. The shop in Phoenix did an IMS upgrade, RMS, new clutch, spark plugs and chain rail pads and a pre-purchase inspection. We all know what that final bill looked like $$,$$$. Well they botched the job. The vehicle had small oil leaks at every single touch point. 5 leaks total. Upon getting the vehicle up here to the Seattle area, Chris’s German Auto was recommended to me by a local Porsche expert. They quickly got my vehicle in and redid all the work that was done at the Phoenix shop. (the parts were not replaced as they were new but of course they had to take everything apart again to reseal everything properly so it was in essence a complete redo of the job) Chris’s shared their findings with me on why the leaks had occurred and sadly it was simply sloppy work like not inserting seals properly. They politely shared their findings with me and also sent a note to the previous shop with a polite suggestion that the other shop should help out with the cost of the work having to be redone (which I did not expect or ask them to do. That was a very nice gesture) The problem has been resolved and I have had my Porsche in at Chris’s German Auto for a few other items like motor mount replacement and a few other small things and have all been perfect experiences. Chris’s is an established shop that does great work at a reasonable price. They are very laid back and easy to talk to, extremely knowledgeable, and the work is done right the first time. They are not going to push repairs on you but rather just let you know how things are looking and if something is wearing but not broken yet they let you know and they keep an eye on it at each service and only recommend replacement when it’s the appropriate wear level when it should be replaced. I live an hour away from their shop and I’m happy to make the drive knowing they are certainly one of the best options for Porsche maintenance in the Seattle area. Oh, and I don’t want to leave you hanging on what happened with the other shop. Unfortunately I did not receive a single penny of reimbursement from the Phoenix shop. But I won’t have to worry about that anymore with a shop like Chris’s German Auto taking care of my Porsche...

Just left this place and John was initially very nice but that changed shortly after. Took my Porsche in with a potential buyer for a pre-purchase inspection. This ran over $250 for plugging in a code reader and looking over the car on a lift, okay dealer pricey but this was accepted ahead of time.. Problem is, they misdiagnosed 3 things. They said the passenger window did not roll down properly and needed a $500 sensor. I tested it with my friend right there and it worked just fine as it always has..?? They said it needed an oil change but I explained that was just changed 2k miles ago with AMS synthetic.. So if an owner changes their oil and cannot reset the internal code then it doesn't count?? They said the waterpump was due for replacement because its over 10-20k miles old but its working as designed and not leaking...?? Lastly, when my buyer asked John for pricing for the most important items he got angry and told him to email with questions and he'll email back later on. The buyer then asked for pricing now as he wanted to purchase it today and John says "Not on my time!" and repeats this twice! We both felt pushed out of his office. Bad day? IDK but really seemed like he thought there was no more money to get and wanted us gone. Thanks a lot John,...

Chris's German Auto Service Redmond ,Washington State

Re: Recommendation to anyone looking for a quality mechanic

To: Chris,

I would like to commend Chris's German Auto Service, Inc. for an outstanding job on the 99.3 purchase project. In my experience, Chris's German Auto Service has proven to be an excellent mechanic. On this inspection, I worked closely with Chris and Troy who inspected my new purchase. Chris and Tylor attention to detail has raised the bar to a new level of excellence. The “PPI” was performed without issues. Write-up was produced quickly and completely, repairs were priced competitively and executed quickly, and requisitions were obtained on time and without revision or added expense. From manpower to materials, the schedule was managed perfectly; throughout, the “PPI” and as a result the car was delivered on time and within budget. Chris and Troy brought a teamwork approach to the job and proactively sought prompt and effective solutions to minor issues. The mechanic at the shop worked safely and produced quality work with minimal extras. In closing, I am confident that given the opportunity, Chris's German Auto Service would be a valuable asset to any new purchase “PPI” or repair...
