I have visited Mercantino Italiano quite a bit over the last two years after being introduced to their wonderful Ribeye Panini aka Cheesesteak. I’ve gone a number of times and have a few favorite items. Today on Tik Tok, someone asked for recommendations in Bucks County of where to get good chicken salad, myself and a few others commented Mercantino Italiano because one of my favorites food items is their chicken salad with grapes, and it’s truly a really good chicken salad. So that prompted me to make the almost hour drive from my home today to get some for myself, along with some other items, mainly the cherry pepper + olive spread they sell. It’s really good.
So I arrive today and the cashier greeted me warmly as I walked in, another young gentlemen was walking toward the front, also greeted me warmly in which I return a warm hello to both. Next I got to the cold case where the chicken salad and cherry pepper/olive spread is and I pick up two chicken salads but their is only a 16oz of the spread their, I only wanted a 8oz. So I did what I typically do because on many occasions the spread hasn’t been in the cold case, I go to the prepared food section and ask for a 8oz container which they always go to the back to get. I’ve don’t this countless times and they are always pleasant and accommodating for the most part, except this one worker always seems to have an issue when I ask for it. Today this employee, who is typically working the dessert/prepared food sections when I am there, was helping a couple with their dessert order as I waited by the prepared food section for her to finish. It was just the couple and myself in the area for a while. Prior to helping the couple the young lady kept walking to the back for stuff, never acknowledged me waiting or said she would be with me, after about five minutes she went to help the couple, gave them their order, as they were finishing up, another customer came up and she asked him if he needed help. I calmly called out stating that I was next, she apologized to the customer, then she came over to me and was said, “do you want something from here?” I was like no but I would like a 8oz of cherry pepp/olive spread. She didn’t say anything just left to get it but when to the cold case to get it and separate it into a smaller container. When she came back about five minutes later she said here and reached her hand out, I said thank you and she said, yeah. She then walks back to the customer that was waiting who arrived after me and apologized again profusely for his wait. I left the interaction feeling very disrespected as a customer, this your lady exhibits micro aggressions everytime I encounter her. It honestly feels as though she is racist and doesn’t like waiting on minority customers. I watched her interact with non minority customers on multiple occasions and she’s very pleasant with them but very rude, crude, dismissive and disrespectful anytime she’s had to assist me. She is the only person I’ve come across at Mercantino Italiano with this attitude, previous encounters I’ve given grace and tried to reason her behavior but today was the tipping point. I was arrived around 9:04 a few mins after they opened and it was only four customers in the store, so it wasn’t busy.
Customer service is a tenant of any good business. I often recommend Mercantino to family and friends because the quality of the food is exceptional and the customer service is most times wonderful, but the young lady who was working the dessert/prepared food counter Sunday, June 22 during opening shift, if she has a issue serving all customers then perhaps she shouldn’t be serving any customers.
I know what I’ve felt and was hesitant to post this review but I cannot deny what I’ve encountered everytime I’ve experienced this one employee.
I am kind and courteous everytime I’m in there, have conversed with other customers, helped people order on the kiosks, purchased lots of items and just enjoyed my overall experience but repeatedly unsavory encounters with this employee makes me not...
Read moreI came here with just one item in mind and ended up getting a few, as well as a list of items I want to get next time in. On this day though, the focus was on their Cheesesteak. I had heard from some viewers of my channels that this place had one comparable to Philly and I simply had to find out!
So...this was not a lie. I will preface it by saying the price tag on them is a bit steep ($17) but this was just as good as most of the big time players in the Philly area, and it's better than a ton of old school Philly spots that people rave about constantly. The Ribeye was not shredded to nothingness and it was also not huge slabs, just a nice rough chop. The onions were a bit larger in size than I prefer, but they melted in your mouth so this really wasn't even a factor. The roll was brought in from NYC and stood up very well to the large amount of meat and cheese on this guy. Lastly, they carry cooper sharp cheese which is what I prefer on a cheesesteak.
Overall great experience from the sandwich and their dessert selection was so insane I simply had to try something from it. I brought my girlfriend a cannoli (which I snuck a bite of and it was quite good) but I got myself a Pistachio Lobster Tail (Sfogliatelle). Such a delicious flavor and a huge crunch. From start to finish every bite may have been crunchier than the last! The pistachio flavor was balanced nicely in the cream filling and had some more crushed pistachio on top. I would absolutely get this again no matter the cost (but for reference I believe it was $6). Giacomo's Italian Market -...
Read moreWe found this little gem from a Tik tok video my wife saw. We were amazed by the Rib eye sandwich and cookies in the video that we had to see for ourselves. WOW. It’s a quaint little shop that packs a big punch. Homemade soups, sauce and a great selection of cheeses. The bakery is to die for, and make sure you try one of their cookies. It’s over an inch thick and tons of variety. We tried the chocolate chip, gluten free chocolate chip, snickerdoodles and double chocolate. I don’t know which was the best bc they all were delicious and didn’t last long. The highlight of our visit was the sandwiches. We ordered a 10 inch rib eye sandwich and an eggplant sandwich with hot pepper aeoli. The rib eye had a full pound of meat and was beyond delicious. My daughter took a bite and then it became her sandwich and she wasn’t about to share. The eggplant was just as delicious and we wish we brought a few to save for the next day.
This place should be on everyone’s list. Our next visit will be to the Italian restaurant next door which we are told is owned by the...
