Loved, loved, loved this place !!! Wow. We were visiting from out of town and heard great things about Virago on Reddit and TikTok, so we decided to stop by. Virago’s tasting room is amazing!
Walking up the gravel road (it is a distillery, after all — they need space), there is a very small sign to let you know you’re at Virago. Open the door, part the green curtain, and find yourself in a beautiful tasting room.
For $20 each, we had one cocktail and a tasting of 3 liquors. We tried the gins and coffee liqueur. The hibiscus gin was amazing, and we ended up buying 2 bottles of the coffee liqueur because it was just that good.
The sweet bartenders were wonderful and walked us through everything - the distillery, the start up story, the selling process, cocktail design and harvesting fresh ingredients each season. I had the snap pea cocktail, and it was very tasty and unique. We were incredibly impressed.
I will absolutely be returning to Richmond JUST for Virago Spirits. This place was the highlight of our trip. Thank...
Read moreThis gem of a tasting room almost has a speakeasy vibe to it; starting when you pull up to the nondescript industrial building, enter the door and walk through the curtains into a colorful room filled with a buzzing crowd of happy patrons.
They’re all happy because they’re among a select few to have discovered a great addition to the RVA bar scene and getting to sample some pretty fine spirits!
When you meet the owners, you’ll immediately recognize the passion they have for their craft. It shows in how much thought and care they put into everything about the place. From the hand painted murals on the wall telling a story about their namesake, Virago, to the cozy furnishings, the fine glassware filled with custom curated cocktails that expertly showcase their spirits.
One important note: Virago Spirits is a distillery – not a bar. So they are by law limited to how many drinks they can serve you. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, just means more frequent trips to try all of...
Read moreFebruary review Had a nice time with the bartenders rain and berry (code names) it’s a small place but very cozy and I enjoyed the different types of drinks this is a great spot for small groups who want to sip drinks and play games
July 15th review Yet again, this spot just doesn’t miss! On Saturday my lady and I dropped in to see one of our favorite bartenders Rain and we met a new one Tina. They took care of us and we enjoyed conversations while drinking the “in between days,” “Brazilian lemonade,” “watermelon Arita,” and a simple “old fashion.” All the drinks were delightful the Brazilian lemonade was the MVP with the sweet and tart taste. It was exactly what we needed for this summer day. Tina and Rain were super great and if you haven’t seen my last review 5 months ago (above) check that out but this remains my favorite spot for...
