Buskey Cider — Restaurant in Richmond

This is a tough review for me, because on any night in Scott’s Addition I love to grab a dry cider at Buskey and hang out with friends; I love their drinks and the staff is always lovely. That said, I had a negative experience with the owner (who manages events) after booking Buskey for our rehearsal dinner/wedding welcome party. When I reached out to check in just two weeks before the event, the owner casually let me know that the one critical part of the party - the catering - would not be able to be accommodated as he had promised from the beginning (which was months in advance). After repeated attempts to get in contact with him to resolve the situation, he was so difficult to reach and dismissive of our concerns. At one point, the on-site cider maker was more responsive and helpful than the owner himself (which was much appreciated)! Ultimately, he told us we could have our event there but ambiguously warned that the catering would be exposed to disruptions during the party. While some of this was out of his control, I was disappointed in the lack of communication, apologies, and effort to resolve the situation. We decided it was too special of an occasion to work with a business owner who cared so little, and to risk our 50+ guests not having the great experience that we were paying for. He refunded our deposit which was appreciated, but again ultimately offered no apology or effort to resolve the situation. I love this cidery, especially because I can’t have gluten and I want a brewery experience. Cider flavors are amazing, service is always excellent. However, I’d heard about the awesome gluten free food truck from various sources, so thought I’d check it out. I searched on the website, all of social, to figure out what the food truck was - after zero success, decided to wing it. It was not a gluten free food truck at all. I realize you can’t cater to everyone, especially all the food allergies - so maybe just posting this info somewhere so we can be prepared...

Everything was great about our experience ( food(free hotdogs) drinks, customer service) except the dog fight we witnessed feet away from us. Kudos to the org for providing a family friendly atmosphere, but I think the line needs to be drawn at the pets being allowed to be in the venue. It's disruptive, and really unnecessary.
