Thorntons — Local services in Riverwoods

Today was my first and last time visiting this new Thorntons gas station in my neighborhood. As an African American living and working in the area it was completely disgusting that in 2023 we Black Americans are still being scrutinized when we walk into any place of business. In all of my life I have never experienced racism before! As soon as I walked into the store the clerk hovered me while checking out the donut display. This was my first time here so I may have been moving a little slower than most. As I finished gathering my items I was confused on how to check out since the employee was busy watching me and not the register, that I noticed there was a self check out option so I opted for that. As I was checking myself out she then proceeds to stand next to me as if I was not intending to ring and pay for my items. I have never been a thief and will never be a thief and I feel insulted! I really wish I had not had to experience this today but unfortunately I did. I hope that this can be rectified so that if I do decide to ever go to a Thorntons in the future that all people be treated equally and...

I love this gas station! Is that strange thing to say about a gas station? Maybe, but it’s true. They always have 5-15 cents off per gallon with your rewards number so it ends up being the best price around in my experience. And to my knowledge the quality of gas makes my car run better than Woodmans. Restrooms are always spotless and the staff are very friendly. I love the filtered water nugget ice and large selection of tea/soda/coffee. When I sprained my ankle and bought a few cups of ice over the summer one employee was kind enough to give me a bag to put it in so I could more easily wrap it around my ankle. They always have good promos on snacks and occasionally free items in the app. Thank you...

I usually have a pleasant experience at this location. But today was an unpleasant experience. I came in for a coffee refill with my cups as usual. One of the cashiers then accused me of it not being a refill before I had to correct her and point out to her that I had come in with my cup. This is all on camera. Then she refused to make eye contact with me after I said that her accusation was inappropriate.
