Visited the museum today and was very disappointed with the presentation of the history of the Black cowboy. My relative is a part of the black cowboy error. He played an important part in history, and in my opinion was not recognized for his accomplishments as a Black cowboy. Instead we were told how 3 other cowboys were better than him. So, I have listed several of his history making accomplishments and, hope in the future the museum will acknowledge him and not compare him to anyone else. A Documentary made for TV is in the making on his life and legacy as a Black cowboy. (1) Co-founder of Prairie View Trail Riders Ass. (2) Oklahoma first black to qualify for the National finals rodeo (3) Cheyenne Wy.- Most successful black cowboy of the 1960's (4) Calgary Canada-received the Guy Weadick Calgary Stampede Award (5) Los Angles Ca-Stunt man for Rodeo movie JW Coop. (6) Crockett Tx.- Founder of Myrtis Dightman annual Labor Day Rodeo (7) Oklahoma City- Inducted into the National Cowboy Hall of Fame (8) Belton Tx- Inducted into the Texas Rodeo Hall of Fame (9) Ft. Worth-Inducted into the National Cowboys of Color Hall of Fame (10)Las Vegas- Recipient of the professional Bull Rider's Ring of Honor (11) Bestowed Honors from The History Makers (12) Inducted into the Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame (13) Myrtis Dightman statue in Crockett Texas (14) Inducted into the 2016 class of the Bull Riders Hall of Fame (15) Colorado Springs- Inducted into the class of 2016 Pro Rodeo Hall of fame and Museum of the American...
Read moreWOW! If I could give this place a higher rating I would. I was not sure what to expect here but I was so impressed with the museum and the owner. Mr. Callies was the nicest, inspirational and most impressive person I have met in a very long time. The museum centers around his family and he beams with pride when he tells you about himself and how his family became cowboys. I learned so much about cowboy history in general and I enjoyed the passion the owner had in delivering the information. I can really see this expanding some day and being handed down to may generations to come. The items in the museum and the photos tell a story of their own. I strongly encourage people to go here no matter your race, religion, background or knowledge. I believe if you love history, are looking for inspiration or just want to be more well rounded, this is the place to come. I smiled for hours after leaving there and we are still talking about this place. Thank you so much for opening this museum and sharing your family and the black cowboy...
Read moreI am very glad that I decided to make the drive to Rosenberg Texas to visit the Black Cowboy Museum. I passed it driving and had to circle back since I was expecting a stand alone building. I had to use navigation to get to location but once there, noticed there was plenty parking. Being the only person at the museum at the time, I received a personal tour from Mr. Larry Callies. He began to share the stories behind several of the items in the Museum and stories about the cowboys that were unknown to me before my visit. I do not recall how much the entry fee was but considering how valuable the information was, the entry fee was a bargain. The museum in small is size but it packed with artifacts. I left after 2 hours because I had another appointment but not because I ran out of things to see or bc Mr Larry ran out of things to talk about. I plan to visit again and...
