Left this Half Price location in Round Rock a little less than hour ago, and unfortunately will not be returning due to an employee's unprofessionalism. I didn't catch the cashier's name, though my receipt reads: Cashier RWes075, and this employee could be recognized by her half blue, half purple hair.
I'm am unsure if the books I was purchasing (some religious texts) or possibly my background (my family and I, who were also present with me at the time of interaction, are of non-White background) offended this cashier. I placed my selection of books on the counter, and prompted my daughter to place her children's book on the counter among my other items. Callously and impatiently, this employee gestured her hand out for my daughter to hurry and give her the book. I hand my daughter's book to the employee who then proceeds to quickly (and I mean QUICKLY) scan every book with intense urgency, never cares to speak to us, make eye-contact, and obviously doesn't offer us a bag (we had purchased around or over 10 books).
This interaction was totally unprofessional, uninviting, and above all, unkind. My child is in her preschool age and for her to have encountered such an interaction at this point in her life is disappointing. Because I felt so targeted by this uncalled for interaction, for whatever reason this employee chose to behave this way, I will make the extra drive to Cedar Park or...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreHalf Price Books has been a part of my life since childhood and I greatly appreciate the plethora of fantastic books at great prices. I was recently in the store with my young children and I came across exotica books on the main aisle of the store with graphic nude covers face forward for any child to walk by and view. This aisle is on the direct path to the children's section. Children have a legal right to be protected from pornographic images. When I asked a store clerk about this selection and why it was face front for kids to view nude photographs they shut down any conversation with me and told me to remove it would be censorship. I was not asking them to remove the book from the store but rather use wisdom and judgement as to what books should have their covers displayed. It was a very disappointing conversation as it was one sided and their store would not engage in a healthy conversation but rather told me to not bring my kids in here. Great, we will be doing just that and telling all of our book loving friends to do the same as we choose to take out business elsewhere from...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreGreat selection and pretty good prices. I wish they had a reasonable trade back policy. I went back with 16 books that I had purchased at that location for $90.34 plus tax. They offered me cash or a store credit of less than $2.00. Iād throw them in the trash first. I donated them to Goodwill rather than give them back to them. Iāve been their customer for many years but Iāll never spend another nickel with them. I didnāt expect to get much in store credit but their offer was less than 15 cents per book. They still had their price tags. All they needed to do was put them back on the shelf. Had they offered 50 cents or $1 a book Iād have been ok. The money would have gone right back to them. I guess my business doesnāt mean much in the grand scheme of things but Iāll never have a kind word about that business practice. Meanwhile I like everything else about the business model but I canāt stomach that one. The message I would like to project to their leadership is that...
