Horrible food, horrible staff and horrible service.. I am experiencing an upset stomach after eating here tonight. Would not recommend this restaurant. You have to bring your own water since water is not free and there is a time limit on how long you can sit at your table.
I have grown up eating food at Honest in India, and it’s one of my favorite places. This franchise however doesn’t live up-to the mark. I have been to this location several times and each time we have experienced disappointment. We initially thought that they are new and may need more time to settle down as they have had staffing issues, however today is the last time we will be eating at this restaurant.
The food is very average, inconsistent and loaded with black pepper. We ordered pizza which was cold. They don’t serve you water, so you are forced to buy water bottles from them. If you decide to go to this restaurant bring your own water bottle.
We have been to this restaurant couple times. They will force you to order pav bhaji by saying that other items on the menu will take 45-50 mins. They have a Jain menu but they can’t make anything Jain other then Jain pav bhaji which is below average. If you insist them on making any other Jain items they say it will take 2 hours, in short discouraging you to order Jain food other than Jain pav bhaji which is pre-made.
Today, when we told them that the bhaji is spicy and has lots of black pepper in it, we were told that their bhaji doesn’t have black pepper. We showed it to them so they took it back and made new bhaji which tasted equally bad and still had black pepper in it.
We have eaten at other honest franchises and the food here tastes-below average. We were not done with our food and were waiting on our to go order, they came several times to inform us to check out at the cash register. Later on they literally came to us and said that we have crossed the time limit of hour and a half and we need to leave as they have more customers. Just to be clear it was not during closing time.
After our dinner my friends and I were chatting outside the restaurant as they kind of made us give up our table, one of the staff members literally came out and asked who wrote that review and wanted us to change the review.
They keep asking their customers to give them good reviews however their food quality, there service and their attitude is really bad.
Avoid this place, there are much better Indian restaurants in Austin that offer good quality food, good service and value for your money.
We will definitely not be coming back...

We have been to Honest multiple times, food has been ok but the staff there was always rude. They would serve you as if they are doing a big favor. But last night it was the worst experience ever. I never imagined that any person working in hospitality industry can be so rude and abusive.
We went as a group to Honest for dinner. The restaurant was not crowded as expected on a weekday. We ordered our food and though the cashier insisted that we should pay at the end but we told him that we want to pay upfront that way it’s easy to keep track of who is ordering what. That made him angry for some reason and he warned us that he will not allow us to order anything more so we need to order whatever we want right now. We found it strange but decided to let it go. My two year old was playing with the the small metal placeholders they had on the tables but one of waitress came and snatched it from her hand without even asking us or providing any forewarning. On confronting her, she said the man at the counter told her to take them from the kid. We decided to let it go. Then our food came and they messed up. When we told them to make a change they bluntly refused and the server took it back without any clear communication about what to do next. After several mins of waiting when the dish didn’t arrive, I went to check with the cashier. He clearly refused to help at first but after some argument, he said you are responsible for your order. He refused to make the dish and agreed to refund the other dish but kept mumbling angrily. Again with everything going on I decided to ignore it. But after this the whole thing went upside down, as we were wrapping up the cashier guy came to our table and started shouting and abusing. It took us by surprise and then we realized he was doing it because my two years old had put some rice in one of the empty water jugs. When we confronted him and told him kids do this, he started telling us how he manages his kids and we need to hit them if they don’t listen to us. This he did in front of our kids. Upon further confronting him he and his staff became much more abusive and aggressive. He ended up shouting at us and told us “GET OUT of my restaurant.”
It was a really horrifying experience and one that is totally not acceptable at all. Being rude was one thing but being abusive and aggressive is totally not acceptable. Hence, wanted to bring this...

Situation: I called the restaurant myself first for a pickup order via phone. I reached restaurant and asked at the door if we can dine in as we decided to have few more things with our order and the restaurant was 20% filled. They said okay you can have it here but don’t use the plates and we agreed happily. After few minutes i went ahead to ask for ketchup and a middle aged Indian man approached me and said rudely to me that i asked you three times on the phone if you want to have it here and I responded back nothing. I came and told my husband that they are still not okay we having the food here. We also ordered a drink with our pick up order. After we finished our food my husband asked at the billing counter when paying if they still have any problem with us eating it here despite they allowing us in the first place.
They were so rude when we asked for clarification in the most polite way and they said its done please leave. We said is this the way you treat your customers and talk in such a way and not even apologizing. They said we wont apologize and told us to leave.
Honest people dont care about customers’ respect and their sentiments and dont even bother if we leave their place happily or being ill treated. They are having great pride in themselves because their sales are not effected as this is the only Indian vegetarian place in Austin and they think they can treat the customers however they want. This is the worst experience I have had all over the world so far where the owner is ill treating you and refuses to apologize.
I would request you guys to think and analyze if these people should feel such power just because their restaurant is doing well that they can talk to their customers however they want as if we eat for free. We are paying every penny for their service. If I had the power i would have fined these people with a hefty amount for ill treating their customers so that they would realize that customers are giving them the business and it is minimum basic of them to be kind when talking to their customers because one day they have to suffer the repercussions of what they are giving back to us!!!
I will do my part and preach to my friends and family to not go to a restaurant who does not treat their customers with a...
