I remember coming here in November of 1981 with my mother and three brothers; then ten years later, in June of 1991. What I remember from that latter visit was her driving west on Maple Rd. in Birmingham en route to our house. I initially couldn't locate Meijer when I was interested in visiting it again. I had seen a SMART Bus proclaiming Meijer as its destination, but I was actually heading home. Weeks later, a bus driver informed me of its location. I can't remember whether or not a location of Starbucks was inside upon my first visit. Of course, that's totally in the past, as I'd had the pleasure of seeing a Starbucks inside. It was formerly located between the eastward entrance and their delicatessen farther to the east. This Starbucks was a bit cozy, as well, and I always gravitated to the table in the corner. First, I would order some pieces of chicken and a side order of either mashed potatoes or macaroni and cheese, or both; then order a baked good of some sort and then a specialty drink; then head to that aforementioned table of "mine" and have my lunch. A great deal of the store was remodeled in '16, including the delicatessen. Starbucks got relocated to the farthest east; the delicatessen remained in the same spot; and they even added a Subway at the front. On this particular day I didn't order therefrom, as per my usual custom, due to financial constraints; I simply purchased two cans of sardines with olive oil, paying for them at Starbucks along with a bag of salt and vinegar potato chips; a slice of Pumpkin Spice Loaf; and a Grande Pumpkin Spice Latte. There are two regular-level tables with chairs near the corridor that leads to the restrooms. I gravitate to the set closest to the restrooms, because there is a pair of plug outlets nearby. They're actually a little farther away than the table set is allowed to be, but still I use that to charge my phone. Across from the entrance, actually a third, added in the remodeling, there are: a high-rise table, of long length, with about five high-rise chairs; and two high-rise tables with pairs of high chairs. This corridor has the entrance to the delicatessen. I didn't do any particular shopping, other than the cans of sardines, after my lunch. I was reading a book simultaneously while eating lunch. Then I left. I have shopped here somewhat many times. This place is enjoyable. I don't think it lacks in whatever you need if...
Read moreI love shopping here, it's convenient because it's usually my last stop before I go home after work
My last visit(Oct 28th 2018 entered @6:30pm exited @7:35pm): as I entered the store two "welcomers" gave me a look of disapproval and did not welcome me. they contiued what ever conversation they were previously having as if I were invisible. I had to walk around them to get one of the smaller baskets I feel it was rude and akward considering I literaly witnessed them greet and give a sales paper to shoppers walking seconds ahead of me. :-/
I shopped around, then I sat for sometime in the Starbucks area and decided to leave and the "welcomer" (an older woman) near the exit decided to stop me amongst everyone exiting because "I came from the other side of the store" and she asked for my receipt which I provided, she took a long look and smirked before giving it back...she did not wish a far well or a good night as with other customers before and after me; only acknowledged that I tryed to leave out the wrong door the first time. This was highly unesessary because I came in contact with BOTH sensors in the process of realizing that I exited the wrong door before she stopped me so if I did steal something they would have went off immediatly I shop here often so I would never do something that dumb anyway. -_- I felt singled out as this has never happened to me before ever I cannot completely avoid coming in here because of the convince, but I left feeling self conscious seriously! other than these two situations staff are usually...
Read moreYesterday I had to return to this location to return a whole fresh Meijer brand chicken due to the condition it was in once bringing home and opening. I called on Friday evening and spoke to Hunter who was very professional and understanding. He gave me instructions on what to do when coming in but told me he wouldn't be working on Saturday. Saturday was unfortunately the only day I could get up there being that I don't live in royal oak area. I went to customer service to talk to Darlene. I started to explain and without Hunter being there, I for some reason just started to feel like such a nuisance and how I could just return on another day when Hunter was here to alleviate any confusion, questions or a different manager like the great Bryanna having to grant a different managers offer. I also knew these women are busy and didn't want to take too much of their time trying to explain. As I expressed this to them and tried to confirm I would be happy to just come up another day, Darlene and Bryanna wouldn't have it(in the most kind, professional and polite way) and they so quickly granted hunters offer and then proceeded to be so funny, silly and just so overall kind and accommodating. I promised them I would make this review because they went above and beyond to help me even when I at some point and for some stupid reason, I clearly didn't want to be helped at the time lol. Thank you ladies for preventing me and my own choices from having to come up there another day and handling my issue with such quickness and being...
