In my life Saturdays are set aside for Chinese. Originally being from Rhode Island growing up we had GREAT Chinese food but having lived in Florida for the last 8 years we had BLEH Chinese food. Moving back up north I was excited to have GREAT Chinese food again as everyone says “Nothing beats Chinese food up north!” As I said, I am newly moved to Michigan so I was on the lookout for the best Chinese food in Troy and so to Google I headed. New China was the second place on the list with a high review count as well as a high rating and was located around the corner from where I am staying. I called in an order and at first was taken a back because the lady on the phone just answered with “Hello” and I thought maybe I had called the wrong place but once I asked if this was the restaurant she said yes and asked what I wanted to order. I ordered General Tso Chicken combo for myself and sweet and sour chicken for my boyfriend. I picked up the food about 20 minutes later when she said it would be ready for pick up. Pick up was easy and hassle free. I got the food home and was excited to try Chinese up north once again. Sadly I was thoroughly disappointed. When ordered the woman asked heat level on my General Tso Chicken and I said medium. There was NO heat at all and to be honest it didn’t have any flavor what so ever. The rice was also very bland and the egg roll was stretchy and very salty. The sweet and sour chicken was sitting in a pool of red jello as the sauce was extremely thick and had already became gelatin. This plate as well lacked flavor and was pretty bland. Had to stop at the ladies room before sitting down and I am not joking when I say this it felt like I was in a horror movie run down house that was falling apart. The bathroom was absolutely filthy. No toilet paper as well. The floor is crumbling apart as well as very dirty walls and the woman’s sanitary dispenser is rusting away. Thought maybe from the old appearance this was a hole in the wall place that we discovered and the food would be great. Started with the wonton soup and it was great. Our server was also very attentive and kind. That’s why they get 2 stars for service. Upon getting our lunch both dishes heavily lacked flavor. It was not in anyway a good meal. A few bits in I discover a white piece of hair in my food. Brought it to the servers attention immediately and brought over the owner. The owners response was “is everything good? Are you okay?” Yes I’m ok but no I’m not good. I felt disgusted and could no longer eat my food. They offered to replace the dish but I declined due to not having an appetite anymore. What the owner meant by “are you good is everything ok?” Was because we weren’t getting that meal taken off of our bill. Read morePost Edit: I appreciate the response and next time I will try a carry out option, and sorry if it sounded harsh towards your establishment, I just was not expecting that kind of service. I would have liked to have had the situation explained in the moment. We were kind of left hanging as to what’s going on. Plus with the food I’d totally get it had I’d known that info but we did feel kinda weird being told not to order an item unless we really want it. It makes me feel like the kitchen doesn’t enjoy making it, it’s just plain not good, or I’m being a hassle to the kitchen by ordering it. I get it though you had 4 people working, leaving about 1 person a position if that. I’ll even admit maybe I did misunderstand the info, but you maintained great customer attention before we ordered, but we never got a two bite check or anything after the order was placed really. We may have even ordered more because of the misunderstanding with additional communication, because we ended up having to order more elsewhere that night. Again I get it I saw you running tables in the dining room alone for the most part. I’m just saying how it went from my perspective dining in compared to elsewhere
