On a recent trip to Dillard's, I "myself as a young Asian female-just to give a little perspective" dressed casually due to the extreme heat, was browsing high-end handbags and accessories (those vintage Louis Vuitton bags have been discontinued for years and all sales are final. Each piece would possibly cost between $1200-$2500). It was my first time seeing those handbags displayed there, totally surprised and wondered how long has the store been carrying them? There were a lot of sale associates standing around, seemed like no one was interested to help but kept staring me down like a potential criminal..haha..sad:(!While I snapped a photo to look at it later and think whether I should buy it or not. A customer assistant quickly approached me. She wasted no time rudely informing me with her loud and obnoxious voice that it was against the store policy to take pictures of expensive merchandise and i was not allowed to do so. I was very taken back, extremely confused and felt humiliated! With my head spinning, I left the store. While in the parking lot, I called the store manager and explained my experience. He then assured me I could take any pictures I wanted, sincerely apologized about the incident and promised to prevent such a thing from happening again to any customers. Evidently, I was being racially profiled by this mean woman. I still couldn't believe i was being treated differently because of my race. And just because of the way I was dressed that day, did not mean i didn't have money. Receiving this negative treatment in public was one of the most degrading and racially prejudiced things I've ever experienced in my life and wouldn't wish this on anyone. Very unfortunate and sad to see how people were being so rude and judgmental and not realizing it doesn't just hurt the victims, it harms the rest of society too. No one deserves to be treated as such. Even though I like to shop there, I haven't visited the store since.
Note: I saw people taking pictures there without having any problems but me. Just so you know, I was the only person of color there at that time. If I wasn't in a stage of shock, I would have confronted the situation directly. I regretted for...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreHere is our experience with Dillards. I had took my wife in there to look at purses for her birthday(it's hard enough to go get anything for her she usually won't do it without reassurance ok). We walk in early in morning when open so there was not so much crowd. We went over right to the purse section. We had past by a employee there named Linda she look at us. My wife was browsing looking at few purses. She had picked up two or three purses found one she liked. But felt as if not time because of Christmas. I was telling her to just get it and I buy it. She hesitate and thought no let's go check other stores first . She wanted to continue on to JCpennys look there as well. So we walk out while my wife lead the way . Linda said I take your money I thought she was joking I said she really wants one but I got convince her it great and get it. We stop by this amazing thing called the giving tree right outside to see what was . Not really paying much attention we walk over towards the front which was now thirty feet away and about four minutes or so. We had walked up front to grab a brochure with scan from on it just in case we wanted to help. My wife and I had turned around and Linda was almost elbows with my wife looking at her purse and the bag. She oh that's what this is for. My wife started to get her high anxiety and was upset . Linda had then walked back in the Dillards back to her station we had walked back knowing now we had been profiled as possible thieves. I went right over Linda and ask what she was doing over by us and why was she following us. She admitted saying we had taken something because we two bags coming in my wife's purse and our purchase from bath body but we took something because when we left my wife had nothing and happen to be carrying her purse and the bag. She never apologized never said anything else made my wife shake and feel like crap and judge us straight up. I wish we had surveillance camera footage so we could show it at next Halloween for...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreSuch immensely disrespectful management. I will be calling corporate to make a formal complaint about the manager Amber. I come in and buy things often because of my friends that work there, no not just visit and talk and waste time, I spend about $100 each time. I can't seem to leave the store without finding something I HAVE to have. But this past visit, a day after my birthday, after finding an expensive bracelet I had every intention of buying as a birthday present for myself, I took a seat to rest my feet (I was wearing heals...that I'd ALSO bought from the store!) and one of my friends that work there came over to wish me a happy birthday. At that same moment this manager came out of the bathroom and made a beeline for us and started reprimanding the employee and made a scene in front of me, and surrounding customers, simply because he was standing by me (which was still in his section of the store, and he'd helped his other customers before coming over). I had brought another employee that works there to help me shop for my birthday that day, while it was their day off, and found out today their jobs were both threatened, and they aren't allowed to come in on their days off anymore. All because she witnessed a small interaction and blew her top. This was not a long five minute conversation, it was just enough of an interaction that he wasn't by me when she went into the bathroom, but was when she came out. WISHING ME HAPPY BIRTHDAY. I was embarrassed for her. Didn't buy that $70 bracelet on my way out either, after her making such a scene I felt awkward being there, I didn't want to get my friends fired for being a consistent, paying customerš. In the past two months I've spent about $500 at that store. What embarrassing behavior for a manager. I'm truly shocked she handled the situation in such an extreme and...
