We didn’t have a very good experience at this business. We felt we were treated unfairly, they didn’t. It took a third party, the insurance company, to convince them to fix the issue. The insurance company informed us that they had to threaten to discontinue service with Focus Eye Center indefinitely before they would fix the problem. Unfortunately the only thing they could do to protect future customers from having the same expensive problem was flag Focus Eye Center on the insurance's side and issue them a warning that they had a few more chances. I admit that after this issue came up I was very upset with them and didn’t handle the situation the best I could have. I wrote an extremely detailed and honest review (which I’m now editing) and said something on the phone I wish I could take back. I was appalled at how the billing department treated me. Until then, I had never dealt with a billing department that was so rude. I was unprepared for what she said and what immediately came out of my mouth. I hope that the people I offended in their office, and God, will forgive me.
PROS: The doctor is young but performs well. They stay open a little late one day of the week for those who finish work at 5. They are very persistent. They don’t give up. (To this day they still send emails even though we had such a negative experience and said we wouldn’t come back.) The office is modern and new. They had a good designer. It's pretty clean, especially the exam room. There’s a play area for children while you wait. We had to wait but it wasn’t extremely long. Reasonable cash pricing for those without insurance. $100 cash price for first visit, $60 after. They did help me with my eye. I normally have perfect vision, but I had a sensitivity that needed to be addressed. I was given a steroid that I wasn't too excited about, but it helped resolve my eye problem for the most part. Every once in a while it acts back up again but because of the experience I had with them and my husband I haven't gone back.
CONS: They were dishonest and unclear with us. Their glasses are expensive! They really try to persuade you to take their cash pricing even when you have insurance because it gets them their money faster than having to go through insurance companies. The price seems decent, but if you have insurance, and they were to charge it correctly, you would most likely pay less. IF YOU HAVE INSURANCE YOUR BILL CAN BE EVEN MORE EXPENSIVE THAN THEIR CASH PRICE! This is because of the way they bill your insurance. They bill medical rather than vision insurance! Medical insurance doesn’t usually cover anything to do with your eyes, not even an annual checkup. In our case, they knew this but did it anyway and charged more on top of it knowing that it wouldn't be covered and would fall back on us. We received a $200 bill in the holiday season that should have been covered with a $35 copay because they charged medical rather than vision insurance. They also lead us to believe that they were going to charge our vision insurance by having the secretary specifically request a copy of the vision insurance card the day following the appointment, although a copy of the medical card was already on file. Per the secretary's directive it was requisite that the insurance card state vision care coverage directly on it. Obviously that's going to lead us to believe that they were charging our vision insurance and not our medical insurance! When I called to inquire about my bill I was met with false implications, defensive obstinance and an unwillingness to correct the simple error. The only thing they were willing to do at first was give us the cash price, which was still $65 more expensive than the correctly billed insurance charge. They just wanted to be paid as quickly as possible and not have to wait the appropriate amount of time for the insurance company to pay them. And they were willing to screw us over to do it. If they did it to us I'm willing to bet we weren't the only ones, but hopefully we were the last. I really hope they had a...
Read moreNot typically the type of person to write reviews, especially negative ones, but it is important for you to know what you are paying for here. I overpayed for glasses here that consistently gave me headaches when taking them off... I also was charged the contact fitting fee despite not getting contacts through them. I tried 6 different types of contacts, only to find out from one of the newer girls on the last pair that none of them were even in my prescription and that is why I couldn't see out of them. She assured me that these next pair were in my prescription, they weren't. Then when they called to collect the contact fitting fee from me after 2 months, I explained this and was told I wouldn't be charged for it. A month later, I got another call saying I had to pay it or it would got to collections. A $70 fitting fee for contacts that weren't even my right prescription was going to go to collections. I am deciding to write this review know because I went to WAL-MART's eye center to get an updated eye exam for work & because one of the glued in lenses from Focus Eye Center popped out. WAL-MART repaired this for a dollar and change, the price of the screw. I was over even trying to communicate with Focus Eye Center and their disorganized office in which employees don't even communicate well with one another. Turns out that the headaches I have had aren't from migraines but because my glasses prescription was wrong to begin with... which explains why the contacts they were giving me were also so bad! 2 stars because the office is clean, and the employees that don't really know what they're doing will at least...
Read moreI have been a customer of Focus Eye Center for many years. I have always been very impressed with the professionalism and knowledge Dr. Hammons, Dr. Lofgran, and their staff have. I was diagnosed with Glaucoma a few years ago and at times I felt like I was at their office way too much, sometimes twice a month or every other month until they were able to get my prescription dialed in. The staff members always make me feel like I am part of their “Focus” Family. Pat is always very pleasant when you enter the office. The two Opticians, Melissa and Fiona, are extremely knowledgeable with both styles and insurance plans so they can help you maximize your coverage. Melissa does a phenomenal job at ordering the most current and “trendy” styles so you can keep looking fresh. Ember is the best eye tech in town. She is very knowledgeable of her job and makes sure you have a complete understanding of what procedures are being done and how those procedures relate to your overall care. In addition to the great service they give their customers the “Focus Charity” project they do is a great idea. I myself donate my old glasses frames to their charity and they in turn give them to those that are less fortunate. I have recommended many of my friends and co-workers to Focus Eye Center and I have not had one complaint. You may find cheaper elsewhere, but I would hands down pay a little more to get the service I receive at Focus Eye Center. They are a family, not just a turn and burn eye...
