Following was sent to care@gamestop.com You should email GameStop corporate at the email address above as I did. I would have given them ZERO stars if possible. Not wanting to write out my experience twice I’m pasting my complaint to corporate. Email to corporate is as follows (I have now identified the hostile employee as Lawrence from others google reviews) ———— Just had an unpleasant experience with an employee with an employee today 2/1/25 when instore to discuss a possible trade-in.
I went in the store to trade in a phone with an email quote received from the website. The first and main employee during the interaction was professional and polite. Due to the system used to identify the quality of the phone, the online trade in quote wouldn’t be honored, which is fine, so I ended up not trading in the phone. This interaction was with an employee with glasses, height around 5’6. Details provided Just to identify the employee that did not cause an issue.
The actual issue with this whole process was with an employee who was tall, over 6 feet tall, who had dark hair and also had a black jacket on. During this process he was extremely hostile and unprofessional. He first then began to scoff and mumble cuss words when I first explained that the phone issues that kept the original online trade in rate from being honored were being misidentified by the machine the first employee plugged the phone into. I wasn’t argumentative in tone. I more or less just requested clearer clarification for why the issue the machine was claiming weren’t actually identifiable when the first employee was actually using the phone. Despite the first employee agreeing the issues weren’t actually happening when the phone was in use, the first employee went through the process again and still got the same result. Which was fine. But during this second process of identifying the quality of the phone the tall employee in a black jacket then began to mumble and cuss under their breath, almost as if having an imaginary argument with me when I was perfectly understanding of their reasoning for the differing quotes and sat their quietly while the process repeated. I thought this was extremely unprofessional and quite frankly embarrassing. I showed your employees respect and for the one employee to respond with vulgarities and anger was super uncalled for. Thankfully, there were no other customers around, but I found the whole thing really unnecessary. Honestly, I’ll probably not come back to the store or use Gamestop in the future after this experience. Depending on how this gets resolved or responded to by you guys, I may leave Google reviews and such just to kinda let people know there’s a hostile employee that refuses to answer extremely simple questions or go through processes professionally when doing trade-ins. Responding to a customer process (trade-ins) that must happen dozens of times of day with strong language and anger is upsetting. Again I was in the store today, February 1, 2025 at about 530 to 6 PM local time give or take. There were two employees working. The polite one that handled the process of identifying the quality of the phone was shorter with glasses extremely polite had a gray Xbox shirt on. The employee that was extremely combative, rude, vulgar, and unprofessional was tall, had dark hair and had a dark jacket on at the time. I probably won’t come back to the store, but I hope you guys just know that this is what’s going on if customers can’t come in to trade things in. If someone’s going to be treated so disrespectfully then what’s the point of having a store? Gamestop used to be something amazing and you guys should really be providing excellent customer service to try and give the customer a great in person shopping experience; just running a retail store means being respectful to customers is such a huge part of running a retail business. I hope someone somewhere finds the time to read this and possibly reply to my complaints, but I just wanted you guys to have this feedback for this...

Here’s my story On Mar 23rd, near the end of Game Stops business day, I was one of many customers awaiting assistance from Lawrence. Once it was my turn, Lawrence was helpful. I explained that while I am not a gamer, we prefer to buy locally to support local businesses. We were considering a Nintendo Switch for occasional nostalgic gameplay usage as my adult children grew up playing Lego Star Wars and other Lego games on a Sony PS2. Lawrence recommended the white edition Nintendo Switch. Lawrence suggested other games, such as Lego Star Wars, which was not in stock. I added that my kids may not even want this system at all, to which Lawrence said the game is returnable. I found another Basketball-related game that may be interesting to get for now to see how it goes. As usual, while the transaction was being processed, there were offers of a screen protector and a warranty, to which I explained that it would just be a console if we kept it. Then Lawrence mentioned some kind of store loyalty subscription, to which I replied that we weren’t gamers.
I stopped by Walmart on the way home to see if the Lego Star Wars was in stock, and fortunately, it was. Now, I had a game that my kids grew up playing.
When I got home and set this up, I was surprised it was not shrink-wrapped like most small electronics today. Again, internally, nothing was sealed, which seemed odd. This Nintendo Switch had some difficulty with the Sony TV…possibly related to an HDMI connector provided with the Nintendo Switch. I fiddled with it, and it seems to work for now.
As I started to test it out, I found that the Lego Star Wars game had evolved and is far more realistic than it was with our Sony PS2 years ago. The bad part was that they triggered nausea and vertigo, rendering it unusable as I was now struggling with vertigo and nausea all night and into the next two days.
On Mar 24th, I stopped by Game Stop on my way back from seeking urgent care and remedies for nausea to return the game. I explained what happened to the person I was talking to, who said their name was Alan and refused to return it. Alan was the only employee at the store and said it could not be returned because it had been opened. I complained that this was never disclosed and is not posted on the outside of the store, the display case for the console or games, and despite explaining that we may not keep it the night before, Lawrence explained that the game was returnable with no mention of anything not being returnable.
Alan called his manager, who would not allow the return either. I continued to complain, and Alan took down my information and said the manager or owner would call me the next day. Alan stated they could return the unopened basketball-related game. The return receipt for the basketball-related game said the cashier’s name was Christopher.
On Mar 25th, there was no phone call from...
Read moreOn my way home from 5 days with my 5 year old son in the hospital I entered with the intent to purchase the same game my son fell in love with at the hospital, MineCraft. After searching for 10-15 min and not finding a copy I asked an older gentleman if he had a copy for my son. I get it he has no idea that my son was in the hospital and I'm not holding that against him. He said yes and retrieved it and then continued to heckle me 5-6 comments one after another. I had just watched him spend the last five minutes talking about how sex in video games is ok as long as it is part of the storyline all the while the customer was just trying to leave. I played along for the first 3-4 being polite and just attempting to purchase the game and go home. Then he said the comment that he'd make the game I was purchasing on sale for anyone but me. I don't know what I did warrant undeserved comment or whether it was in jest or not I don't care. I didn't really care for his unsolicited opinion. I didn't want to sit and chat and be buddy buddy. I for sure didn't want him telling me that I didn't deserve it and others did and after the first 4-5 snarky comments I had had enough. I wanted to go home and rest. Needless to say I just canceled checking out mid check out and walked out the door. He was shocked and said as I was walking out that he was just kidding. I don't have a problem spending more money for the same product trying to support local business, But I do have a problem being heckled in the process. I purchased it online from Amazon for 1/2 cost and will never return to that location even though I have bought games there for myself and others for the last 5+ years.
In the last 5 years they weren't ever average for service or knowledge but they are one of the only places to purchase games in town. I get it my measly $ isn't important to them but I want to suggest that maybe yours isn't that important to...
