Great location, but the grocery store is otherwise lacking. Produce section is small, not great selection. Meat is limited and overpriced when compared to other supermarket chains in the area. They don't seem to care if people bring their pets into the store - even when they obviously aren't service animals. I've seen a woman feeding her dog directly from from the salad bar before - not exactly up to health codes. They very often don't have items priced, and will just make up a number at check-out (surprise - the made up number is usually higher than it should be).
The biggest issue at the White Market - management and staffing. The store is understaffed and consistently has long lines that move slowly. Additionally, they don't seem to plan effectively for times that are busy. There are certain days/times when the Market consistently sees an uptick in business - they don't seem to have an awareness of this and are caught off-guard scrambling to get more help when it gets busy every...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI was quite shocked when I was reading all the reviews about this store"..Great Prices,Friendly Staff,Good Selection of Food..." this is further from the truth!!! When I moved to this area years ago I was shocked, disturbed and amazed how this store is VERY OVERPRICED,NOT AT ALL DOES IT HAVE A BIG SELECTION OF FOOD,,,AND THE CASHIERS,STOCKERS,AND EVERYONE ELSE IS ARE NOT VERY HELPFUL OF FRIENDLY AT ALL... And the owner of the store is rude... I have never seen him being helpful or friendly to customers of much less his STAFF... I have lived other places than Vermont and this store is by far the most overpriced, very poor customer service, and unclean. Unfortunatly the owner and corporation knows that people are going to come back because there are only 2 in St.J....Thats why that store operates...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIt's a convenient independent store, however, I have a substantial complaint about it which is that they want you to check any bags you bring into the store at their front, which is rather inconvenient, and can also be insecure. Kind of bizarrely behind the times in a state where you're required to bring in your own reusable bags. Worse though, if you were to bike there with a backpack or something, and you have anything valuable, would you trust it at a random place? Do you want to take the time to find someone to hand it to? This pretty much stops me from going there on the bicycle, and once I have to hop into the car, I may as well just drive to Price Chopper where I can throw my bags...
