New Century — Restaurant in Saint Johnsbury

My family had been going to this restaurant for years and is by far the best Chinese restaurant in the area. We even have company parties here from time to time. I would never recommend anyone any other place to eat.

Today was by far a surprise and very strange. This place has recently gone under new management. We walked in tonight to have another great meal to be met by the new owners asking if we have been vaccinated (which we have) and when we said yes (which really is not a question he should be asking) he asked us to prove it by showing him our cards. I was shocked and for a second wasn’t sure what to say. I told him we have been customers here for years and was just in last week for dinner. He said doesn’t matter. He wanted to see proof we were vaccinated. I told him we have never carried that silly card since day one. He refused to serve us.

If this is the way they want to treat the people that keep them in business they don’t need my business. I cringe to even say that because like I said in the beginning this is the best Chinese place in town to eat and not sure I can live the rest of my days not having their food.

Very sad to be treated so poorly by the new owners. I hope choosing this path for their customers doesn’t come back to bite them but my guess is it will. Poor business practices. They should never require anyone to show proof of vaccination...

Well the place doesn't look good but those are usually the gem's! Sorry this place is as good as it looks, very disappointed. There really was not any service, except to order and get your food, we had to go up and pay to get out of there but it can happen I guess. no alcohol could be served? Just a note in the menu? Chicken wings were ok, large ones, egg rolls were cold...portions were average food I felt tasted average, anyway I ended up not feeling well after we left and ruined my whole night and all next day, I was in the area for a wedding so I attended then had to go to my hotel room and sleep off the sickness. I would pass on this place if you are only in the area a day or two although it had great reviews? Maybe we caught them on an off night. Women at the register apologized for the service. Workers seemed nice, just didn't seem to come back and ask if we needed a refill or needed anything else to go with our food. Never even looked at us as they walked by several hundred times. I've ordered here many times. Food: 9/10 The food is almost always very fresh and tasty. There have been a couple of times some of the off-season vegetables have not been the freshest they could have been, though. The prices are great, too. Service: 9/10 The service is unbelievably fast. I've had my order ready in just over 5 minutes before. I don't know how they do it. The staff is very friendly.
