Milkhouse Ice Cream — Restaurant in Saint Johnsbury

Aug 10th 2025 7:15pm. ABSOLUTE CRAP! NOT WORTH THE TIME OR MONEY! Was given a bowl of ice cream soup! Told I couldn't get a refund because I ordered the holy cow and that comes with microwaved donut holes SO IT'S TO BE EXPECTED THAT YOU WOULD BE HANDED SOUP ICE CREAM??? There was nothing microwaved about those donut holes, they were flavorless cold, hockey pucks! I COULDN'T EVEN PUT MY SPOON THROUGH IT! I explained that even the whipped cream was melted on top when they handed it to me!!!! There was nothing warm in that bowl! That melted mess was a result of it sitting on their counter and taking over 15 minutes WAITING FOR THEM to make my boyfriend's simple banana split that came out with no banana!!! Incompetent and rude service! And to think that I left a good tip! Too bad it wasn't an option to pay upon receiving your order. This young maybe 16 year old blonde worker I had been dealing with decided to examine the donut holes that were hockey pucks like she was going to prove me wrong or something realized I was right when she couldn't even put the spoon through one of them. With an attitude she reluctantly went through the process of giving me a refund. I asked for an updated receipt and she told me that it wasn't displaying that I was only charged for one ice cream, it was still showing that I was charged for both but she insured me that I was refunded. I just checked my account and I have yet to see a refund! I will...

Don't get me wrong the ice cream selection is great and the kids working there were too.🙂 The problem is it is an unsafe neighborhood and we will never bring our kids down there again. 3 different families with young children all witnessed a spectacle of an addict in withdrawal pacing the block asking for money angrily before turning his focus on all of us and asking for "a dime" when the families ignored and whispered in hush tones to their children how to handle this scene he became angered and screamed obscenities and called the Dads names little kids getting an ice cream cone should not need to hear. Unacceptable exposure. As a local I see this man still roaming this area. This was not an isolated issue. I feel for the local business and the young kids...

Milkhouse Ice Cream is great! They have a great selection of hard ice cream, and some soft serve (Vermonters call them creemees) as well! The building is cute, it’s conveniently located right next to a gas station with ample parking, and prices are SUPER reasonable compared to other ice cream places I’ve been to in Vermont. They have an amazing selection of sundaes!! They even have one that has apple cider donut holes and maple creemee on top! That’s the most Vermont-style ice cream sundae ever and it is AWESOME! I would highly recommend this sundae, and it’s also worth trying their flavor-burst creemees as well. This is certainly one of the better food options in St. Johnsbury - I will definitely be returning when I’m back...
