Wonderful new art gallery in downtown Salem! Melanie Weston (the owner) provided just the right amount of information on the artwork, and time for you to internalize the pieces of interest to you. There is a fresh feeling to the gallery, and I look forward to to seeing all that Salem on the Edge adds to the area's art community. While there are many excellent pieces of art to select from, my favorite is Sylvina Day's “Emerald Pool (Santiam River #4)” Oil painting. The vivid layers of details transported me to the river as I was able to peer through the life like depth of the water Day has painted. While I was unfamiliar with this artist before visiting Salem on the Edge, I will certainly be looking forward to seeing more from this artist in the future. Although this was my personal favorite, there were many selections from a variety of artists that I would be proud to display in my home or office. Features that make visiting Salem on the Edge include: Wide variety of art to choose from, knowledge staff, handicapped accessible, and surprisingly good values for the quality of...
Read moreThis gallery is a gem. It is light and bright and welcomes you into a surprisingly large space.
I like the curation of the monthly exhibits which always present cohesively but at the same time, leave plenty of room for individual work viewing so you don’t feel crowded or overwhelmed. The gallery and guest artists provide a wide range of contemporary art - predominantly created by Pacific Northwest artists.
Whether a visitor is brand new to a gallery or a seasoned collector the gallery staff is welcoming and happy to let you browse or discuss work on view. They know the art and their artists. If you don’t see something that appeals, they may have something in the back - or can help you reach out to individual artists. As an artist myself, I sought out this gallery because it provided the sort of gallery experience I like as a buyer; welcoming, accessible, and always showing something new and fascinating. Well worth...
Read moreThis gallery is such a dynamic and creative force in the heart of downtown Salem. I love the art shows and the opening, social media posts and newsletters. Each time I drop in I find owner Melanie Watson a colorful and welcoming presence. She is always friendly, willing to engage in conversation, ask me questions and show genuine interest in what I have to say. (Introverts can expect to be left alone, too!). Salem on the Edge Gallery gives me a glimpse into Salem's artists and gives me a chance to feel involved the community's art scene. I highly recommend stopping in and making the gallery a regular part of your...
