I want to share a somewhat ugly experience I had with Pals. Earlier this year, I adopted my cat Tony with a clean bill of health from just a week earlier from a vet in Salem. Shortly after adopting him, he fell ill from some unknown cause.
After about $8,000 of veterinary diagnostics and hospital stays, my vet ran two tests that he had allegedly tested negative for just a few weeks earlier: FIV and FELV. He came up positive for both. We tried many treatments but his disease was quite late stage. Unfortunately, after only a couple months with Tony, we had to put him down.
I later contacted the Salem vet to let them know their FIV and FELV tests had contradictory results just a couple weeks after. But there was a problem - they never ran FIV/FELV tests on Tony. Despite the paperwork from Pals indicated that he tested negative at that vet, on that day.
At the very best, this is a critical administrative error by Pals that resulted in a huge emotional and financial toll. At the very worst, this could be a deliberate misrepresentation of the health of one of their animals, for who knows what reason.
I have since contacted Pals on multiple occasions asking for an explanation, and despite being promised a returned call, I have not received one.
I would encourage anyone adopting from Pals to scrutinize the veterinary records, including independently verifying with the vet on file. If there is a systemic issue of improper recording of diagnostic results, there could be animals with communicable diseases that are not properly isolated from...
Read moreI will always be thankful to PALS. I adopted my bonded pair, Nabi & Yuki (formerly known as Daisy & Dizzy), from them one year ago this week. All of the volunteers were so kind and helpful, especially Carol.
The adoption process was quite simple. I had applied online and inquired about a specific cat I saw at their PetSmart location. They gave me a call a few days after and let me know that she had adopters lined up for her, but they would keep my application on file and call me when they had a good match. I reached out shortly after about a pair of kittens I saw them post on Pet Finder, we set up a meet & greet, and took them home the next day.
Highly recommend adopting from and supporting them! Thank you again PALS team, our lives are so much fuller with...
Read moreI am extremely upset and heartbroken. I adopted a cat from you on May 15. You had his name is Clark, but we called him Jack. Yesterday afternoon we had to let go of him. Apparently he had cardiac issues and was born with a virus. I think it is disgusting that you don’t fully examine the animals that you let people adopt, let them get close and fall in love with them, only to find out that you gave them a sickly animal. We should have known better since basically you are a pet store and we all know how pet stores take care of...
