I am an old man who no longer has an electric saw or the ability to carry big sheets of plywood. So when I went to Home Depot in Salem Mass, I was looking for someone who could help me out and cut some big boards down to size for me. A guy named Mike in the Lumber department stepped up and, even though he was helping someone else, said he'd be with me in a minute. And true to his word, he finished up and came over to me. I described exactly what I needed, and he was extremely helpful. When I realized it was going to take a while, I asked him if I could run a few other errands and just ask him to put the cut pieces in my shopping cart. Half an hour later, I returned. I couldn't find Mike, but there in my shopping cart were the pieces, cut neatly and placed just so. I can gripe when someone isn't very helpful -- but when someone really cares about doing a professional job responsibly, I want to be sure that I take the time to give them the credit they deserve. There are so many workers who don't expect to be recognized -- the kid who takes an order at a drive-thru window, the teller at the bank, someone who works on a lawn in awful heat -- whose attitude, whose brightness and friendliness and pride in their work can leave a lasting impression. I could have left Home Depot frustrated at an inability to find anyone to help me, or telling me I couldn't leave the store, or with me ending up coming back and finding no sign of my lumber. But it was as if I just totally got my wish -- polite, responsive, responsible, accurate, and glad to help. Thank you, Mike -- and to all of the Mikes out there, wherever you work. We may not always thank you and show it (or write a review!).....but your own upbeat, "Good morning!" really can make a difference to the many people you serve in the course of a day. Thank you -- and don't ever underestimate your ability to make a genuine, positive impact on...
Read moreFrom what it used to be it has come a long way. Everywhere has lines these days due to Covid-19, and Home Depot is no different if on a weekend or spots in the weekday rush. Went to pick up a few things for the house and stopped here. They have decent prices and have had toilet paper as well as Lysol the last few times I had gone!
The line for the registers can be a bit confusing but you line up on the right side and one of the cashiers will call you over when you are next for the checkout. Some customers will go and use the first and second registers, cutting people every now and then though the cashiers try to catch them when they can. Not their fault for others just wanting to run in and run out. This year has made everywhere a bit of a line. It is not as bad as the supermarkets or Walmart though that is for sure!!
From my checking out, the only downside is I heard other customers criticism about having to use a Self Check out machine. The world is changing and though I am for seeing a cashier when I can, the fact that some places have a Self check out is amazing to move on from the line and out. Some might see it as the scanner being touched by multiple people which is understandable, though so might be whatever I happened to pick up off the shelf. Seems with the self check or not, the risk is there. It would be up to the individual to be mindful and wash/clean their...
Read moreWent to pick up some items today, I noticed that the mulch was on sale (Scott's) 4 for $10.00, on a big sign. I asked the employee if it was on sale " she said the sale may have ended on 6/1/14, however if the sign is still up you can get it for that price. I go to the cashier and it comes up 3 for $10.00. I say but the sign says 4 for $10.00. The cashier calls her Mgr on the phone and tells her that their is no one working out back and there is no sign saying 4 for $10.00 . The Mgr basically is calling me a liar ! I walk back to make sure the sign is still there, which it is. I go back to the cashier and she gives it to me for the price on the sign, great. What I didn't like about the Mgr response was: A) Being called a liar, what happened to "the customer is always right" ? B) The Mgr could have had the common decency to send some one down and check the price. C) The Mgr could have gotten off his/her's fat ass and checked it out for themselves! I spend a lot of money at H.D. God you think I going to lie...
