Iâm new in the area and was looking for an Aveda salon. I called this location and booked a mid-level stylist. Upon arriving I was confused about getting in since all the doors were locked. When I was let in, I saw the stylist immediately and she informed me that she didnât have the time to do my hair because the front desk should have booked a consult first. She gave me two options to either come back the next day or Saturday morning first thing. I was really excited to get my hair done so I took the first available which happened to be a new artist. I was assured that she would be able to custom color, highlight and cut my hair to match the Remy extensions I purchased and brought with me. My hair needed to be lifted two levels and the stylist took over two hours slopping bleach all over me without even putting a towel around me. It was burning my neck as she proceeded to mix 8 bowls of bleach and I have shoulder length hair. I was getting the impression that she wasnât very qualified to be at that level of salon. I was extremely polite and kind with her asking what she was more comfortable with cutting or coloring, she said she only liked doing color and cutting womenâs hair was boring. I said okay, how about we just skip the haircut today then. She agreed. I asked her if she could place my clip in extensions in and she told me she never touched any before and wasnât comfortable but would watch a video. As time went by and she was gingerly applying massive amounts of bleach to my hair my scalp started burning. I told her my hair was really sensitive to bleach and I had an experience before that wasnât good. She said âoh thatâs terribleâ and continued applying. Finally I asked her to get a grand salon expert to help and they instructed her to rinse me immediately. While at the bowl she was asking me to look left then right. She had no towel around me and sprayed water down the chair dousing me and my clothes. She didnât even offer me my own towel as we continued and I was freezing. I asked her how it was looking and she told me she messed up and made the roots way too blonde with bleach because she applied it too soon. My hair was unevenly stripped yet she proceeded. I had made up my mind to skip the highlights and cut and just get the coloring done since she told me thatâs all she was confident doing. She had mixed two different batches of color but kept running out leaving me to go mix more. By the end she had ceased in applying two shades (I only wanted one even tone of brunette) but she got to the other side and just started slopping on the color flinging it everywhere. This process ended up taking 6.5 hours long and I had uneven fried out hair with blotchy color with not even so much as a haircut. I asked her if she was comfortable doing a straight blow dry and she said yes, but was way more interested in trying to sell me products than properly blowing out my hair. I asked her to please get the extensions from the back so I could see the color. She hesitated and said âyou wonât be able to tell because Iâm not done blowing it outâ. I politely asked her to get them anyways because I could see in the mirror we had a disaster. Upon laying the color over my frizzed out blow out that was nowhere close to dry I said can we please just finish drying my hair? She said she needed to talk to someone and left me sitting trying to smooth my hair with my hands as an attempt to try and salvage the root area from frizzing up as it was drying fast from the Snow White bleaching she did only to make it too dark. I was astounded that she put my hair through so much just to go much darker than the color I requested. She came back with another stylist and said she would clip in my extensions. I asked could we please finish the blow dry. She was just running a brush over it and blowing it with a dryer. I actually stopped her and showed her how I hold a portion of hair tight and then apply the dryer. It looked awful and she still charged me $58 Per hour. Iâm furious and my...
Read moreI won't remove what I wrote some years back, but please see my edits below. This is a terrific salon and very indulgent. I've been to Savina twice now with a real challenge on my head. She was great and fixed my fried mess into pretty good looking hair. Just getting a wash and cut here is like a spa day. Only drawback is the price: I can afford a great cut here but I can't afford to get it maintained here. But you get what you pay for and when I can spend it , Savina and this salon are worth it. Thanks for a great cut! In response to the owner's kind reply: At the time I wrote the first review Sevina was a New Artist. I am so glad to her of her well-deserved promotion. But I'm afraid the sad comment on the prices must stand. thank you.
Edit 2/18/21 As you see above this place used to have great service. So when my usual stylist moved my first thought was to come back here. After making the appointment on line and paying in advance, something I've never done for a cut before and will never do again, I replied to both multiple emails and texts confirming the appointment. So I assumed that promptness was important here. I took time off work and arrived at 12:40 for a 12:45 appointment. I was shown to a seat and promptly forgotten. at 1:15 I went back to the desk and asked the young lady there how much longer it would be, if I didn't leave by 1:45 I would be late back to work. She was unable to give me even a clue as to how much longer it would be. Unable to wait and still be sure of getting back on time, I asked her to credit the amount back to my account and give me a receipt showing that. She was also unable to do this even after 10 more minutes and after she had "called the other salon" (presumably to see if perhaps they may have trained someone there, apparently they hadn't) I finally had to leave with no haircut and no confirmation of refund. (Update: I did receive the refund properly) On a side note, the salon was also far too crowded for social distancing. I'm hardly fanatical about the subject, but I became distinctly uncomfortable with the amount of people in the building. The business model seems to be to cram the space and schedule as full as possible and then wait on those who stick it out. I've rarely seen a business devolve so fast. And I've never had to edit a positive review so thoroughly. But they aren't hurting for customers so save your money and go someplace where they want...
Read moreI have been going to Landis for a few years and have always had a pleasant experience. Today, however, they called me and told me that the customer who had the appointment before me was going to take too long, so my appointment was going to be canceled. My options were to reschedule or come in 15 minutes later and get my haircut with someone other than the stylist I typically see. I opted to see the other stylist because I needed my hair done before an important event tomorrow. After I complained that it was clear they were skipping me in order to accommodate both the person before me and everyone after me, the woman on the phone mentioned I could get a discount.
My usual stylist charges $52 and the one I got a cut from charges $44. When I went to check out they tried to charge me $44 saying that the discount was applied off of the $52. I had to point out that I did not get a haircut from someone who is experienced enough to charge $52 a cut, so my discount needs to be off of the $44. They finally agreed, but that is dishonest business, after already having poor communication and scheduling. Also, it was clear the earlier appointment was taking too long because the woman had booked a haircut but wanted a cut AND color. Rather than making her reschedule for the appropriate amount of time, it became my problem.
Beyond that, and perhaps most frustrating of all, I shared with the woman cutting my hair that I (a woman) and my wife are expecting a baby in January and that my wife is carrying the baby. I never expect places like a hair salon to be overwhelmingly comfortable for queer women, but I have never felt more uncomfortable. She asked me if it was a planned pregnancy and who I think the baby will look more like, me or my wife...? Part of the reason I like seeing the same stylist consistently is because I have a rapport with her and trust her to not ask ridiculous questions that go beyond lacking cultural competency. It is absurd that I had to actually sit there and answer questions like that and then have the desk attempt to charge me full price after trying to cancel my original appointment.
My wife is actually the one who introduced me to my original stylist. Youâve lost 2...
