The Salt Lake City Public library is Fine Free, which means they do not charge daily late fees! Return the item to prevent being billed for a Lost item. Movies check out for 7 days. Most other materials check out for 21 days. Most items renew automatically, up to 3 times, as long as another patron has not requested the item. (Exceptions are the Lucky Day collection and Discovery Kits).
This beautiful library opened in 2016, and has two levels. Fair warning, during afterschool hours, Level 1 is bustling with activity. It's a far cry from the quiet libraries of yore. Most libraries are no longer "quiet libraries'", and librarians don't shush people who are simply having a conversation, unless it's a designated quiet zone. Libraries now serve a purpose as community gathering spaces, or third spaces. Staff do try to encourage a quieter environment on Level 2, and will react to the needs of the patrons using the library. So if something is disruptive to you, please let staff know. Fair warning, sometimes large gatherings of people (music recitals, community councils, cultural events, art exhibits) do occur in the Multipurpose Room, Conference Room, and the gallery space (which are far away from the study rooms). Level 1 is a much busier and noisier place since it includes the Children's and Teen library spaces.

But plans are underway for a new coffee shop to open up within the next few months. There are also 2-3 coffee/tea shops/trucks within a 5 minute walk/drive, and at least 3 restaurants! Parking spots in front of the library are quite limited, but there is street parking, and an LDS church parking lot nearby. Neither the library nor the church are responsible for any theft or damage to vehicles. ...
Read moreThe employees to be nicer, if I could give it a zero I would the employees are so rude while I had a crying baby because some kid was mean enough to shove my 1 year old away from a toy my baby was crying and a worker came in between the book shelves and just looked at me basically telling me to leave or have my child be quiet, instead of being nicer and saying is there anything I can help are we okay here? No just stares me down between the bookshelf so rude so unprofessional and weird stalking me through bookshelves to get my child to be quiet. Not just that but it was very clear that as soon as my child calmed down, the worker left. It's stressful enough as a mom having your kid cry in public let alone someone staring you down while you're trying to calm your child is rude uncomfortable and NOT OKAY ! Never going back ever worse place on top of that smells like homeless piss...
Read moreFavorite library in town, a two story building with plenty of space, light and modern interior design. The atmosphere is bright yet tranquil. There are individual study rooms and a huge business meeting room, a cafe downstairs and a beautiful open space right outside with an art wall and various plants.
The librarians puts in a lot of work into fostering intellectual and cultural growth for our community, as you can tell from the displays on the second floor and their book selections.
