BEWARE! Dealing with this business has cost me months of time, and a tremendous amount of heartache. I hope that this review saves even just one person from going through the same horrible experience. To sum up if you do not want to read the whole experience: In designing a piece with them, they disrespect you if ask questions or want to be part of the process, gaslight you when they make a mistake, and ultimately not deliver on what they had agreed to make. My husband & I went to Plateau jewelers because I had two rings, my late father’s wedding band and my mother’s wedding ring that had family heirloom diamonds in it, and I wanted to combine the piece and make a necklace. This piece was very emotional for me and a gift from my husband for our wedding anniversary. We made it clear that was the MAIN goal for the piece. At the first design we were told that we'd work with them to design the piece and iterate on it "until we were happy". This sounded great! We said at the onset that we weren't 100% sure what we wanted the final look to be, and we'd need help and a few tries getting there. Our initial 'design' meeting was a pick from a catalogue w/ some edits, and some paper sketches. Kelly didn't approach us during this process, so there was some uncertainty around what was possible. I asked for our first design change before the first mold was made, as I didn't love the 'pick from a book'. This is when we had our first surprise... apparently she had 'under-charged us', and the redesign fee was now $250! We argued it, because that wasn't the original deal, it felt unethical and the start of a scam. They should stand behind prices agreed upon and not add to it once we are stuck in the process. They agreed to continue with the redesign with the original quote/understanding. This would come to bite us later!! Soon, we went back to the store to see the first mold. We still weren't in love with it, and were advised to talk to Kelly about the final design choices. In the hour we were in the store and after being told we were waiting for him, Kelly never made an attempt to come talk to us and we had to just make a call again and leave. We waited an additional month and followed up several times, and then the necklace was ready. It is the design we wanted... But Kelly had decided - without ever consulting us - to not use my father’s ring in the necklace. His reasoning: since money was a concern for us (remember the surprise design fee above?), he tried to save us money as using the band would mean he needed to spend on other gold too. All it would have required was a phone call or an email before committing to that change, but again he didn't want to communicate with us. Don't worry though, there was a surprise $126 charge for 'soldering' (always part of the design) and a chain that's 25% more than quoted and reasonable, so they found their way to get the extra dollars from us. We were obviously upset, and reiterated that the goal was combining the pieces. Kelly was very defensive & even tried gaslighting us: "You tried to control the entire process", "You argued everything", "You couldn't possibly understand this because you're not a jeweler", "99.9% of my customers are happy with my work". So in his eyes, his failure to build what we asked is our fault. Sir, we tried to: be involved, iterate on the piece like we were promised, and balked at surprise fees. His solution was to completely dismantle the piece, melt it back down, and hand us our diamonds and gold at a full refund, which isn't acceptable. This also showed us how much pride and consideration they felt for the work. To their credit, one staff member did eventually offer a very reasonable suggestion to include the band that we considered. But at this point we had lost all trust; I would never allow them to work on my jewelry again. Kelly has ruined what was supposed to be a beautiful and heartfelt experience. He has taken our money our most importantly our joy and for that I will NEVER forgive...
Read morePlateau Jewelers is one of those rare and wonderful “heart of the community” businesses. I remember a family-owned jeweler in my old hometown. My grandma’s watch given to her by my grandpa, and which I now have, was from there. My mom’s engagement ring was from there. My Godmother bought me an engraved silver locket there for my baptism. I helped my dad pick out a 30th anniversary gift for my mom there. The people who owned and worked in that store knew and cared about my family for decades, like they knew and cared about countless families in the community, and in that, they helped shape thousands and thousands of life events and memories for generations of customers. Be assured that I am not the only one from that town for whom the stories of where those pieces were purchased plays an enormous role in their emotional value. Plateau Jewelers in Sammamish is just like that store.
In Plateau Jewelers’ beautiful store, they will ask your name and remember it. They will come to know your family and the life celebrations that are important to you, past and present and future. Kelly and team are personally and professionally amazing. They will be there greeting you warmly when you come back the next time. Even if it’s a year or two later, they’ll be happy to see you and be asking about how you and your family are doing, about the life event you were last in for, and the reason you are in today. And they care about it all.
I am not their biggest customer by far, but they treat me as a valued neighbor and friend every time I am there…even though many of my visits are just “dreaming-and-browsing” while I get my rings cleaned. But you can bet Plateau Jewelers are who I always want to work with when my family has got something special coming up or when I might want to treat myself.
Whether you have your grandma’s bracelet with a broken clasp needing to be fixed so you can wear it and remember her, or you are a dad that wants to buy your graduating daughter her first diamond earrings, or you and your intended want to find a truly special engagement ring, or you want a unique and beautiful anniversary or birthday gift, Plateau Jewelers is where you should go. Their products are stunning, whether brilliantly classic or uniquely modern/contemporary. Their services are impeccable, whether resizing a ring or doing a custom design of an heirloom quality piece. They cater to all different budgets.
The experience you will have as their customer, their neighbor, their friend, will keep you coming back, and will have you talking about them to others as if they are friends that care about you, your family and your life, because they actually do.
Thanks, Kelly and team. You...
Read moreWhat a wonderful experience I had working with Kelly and Nick. I found out about this store after inquiring with other jewelry stores about the possibility of shortening an 18K vintage watch. The response with the other stores was that it wasn’t easy to know how much time it would take, or cost, because it was an uncommon, and complex request. I didn’t feel comfortable, and looked at other places.
After reading the reviews for Plateau Jewelries, I called them, and I immediately liked this place. Very quickly Kelly knew exactly what kind of watch I had, and told me that Nick, the jeweler, had over 40 years of experience, and that he couldn’t imagine him being intimidated by a gold band.
The same day I took the watch in, they told me on the spot their plan of action, how long it would take, and how much it would cost. There wasn’t a: “the jeweler isn’t in, and only comes a couple days per week, and this will take some time to assess” like at other jewelry stores.
My watch was ready for pick-up way sooner than predicted, and I just couldn’t be happier with their work. My watch fits perfectly well, and it came out cleaner and shinier than how it was left. This is a 70’s watch, and it jut came out looking NEW!
Everyone working here is incredibly professional, knowledgeable, and above all, they are kind people. It’s just fun to work with them, because you can tell they are very passionate with what they do.
The whole store has an ambiance of elegance, quality, and familiarity. It’s impossible not to leave with a smile!
Next time I need jewelry, or jewelry repair, I’ll definitely come...
