If you want to play Magic in San Antonio, then Gamerz is the place. The store itself is spacious and clean. It also has a clean bathroom, a water fountain (!), and a friendly atmosphere. The staff is respectful and the patrons (thankfully) do not form the exclusive cliques that are so common in other card shops. Their facebook sends out daily reminders, so I never have to wonder what is happening on Saturday or when the Modern FNM starts relative to Standard.
Gamerz is best-known for its Magic scene. The quality of players is the highest in the city - and it's not even close! This is the place to polish your game to prepare for PPTQ's, Opens, and GP's.
The singles collection is very large and encompasses every format. The prices are fair and the staff has worked with me when I found much cheaper prices on tcgplayer or ebay.
Not a competitive player? That's fine! There's plenty of casual players in every event. There's usually 1-2 active EDH pods.
Gamerz hosts well-attended weeknight events from Tuesday-Thursday. It's the only shop in the city that regularly runs Legacy (Wednesdays), and it is rarely cancelled due to low attendance! They also host FREE tournaments on Thursdays (Modern) and Sundays (Standard); the Modern tournament has 25+ players every week! The free tournaments even offer prize support! You won't get better value anywhere else...

Read moreFirst off, in the middle of COVID, I just wanted to get sleeves and boxes, maybe a few prebuilts for MTG. Yes, I’m new to this world, yes I have questions, and yes, I have concerns about my safety and the safety of my wife. We first walk in and they check our temperature, I appreciate it tremendously as it’s the first place that has done this. But then, I get sassed when I ask how much a card goes for. Because it’s a $180, I was met with sass. Bro. I’ve spent more on a bottle of wine. A customer comes in, and because he’s a friend, he has no mask on. He’s in the shop for 15 minutes, talking to the staff -who is half helping at this point- before they even tell him to please put it on. I get my things and I split. Most likely won’t be back, but totally love this...
