NO FLAVOR, EXPENSIVE. SKEPTICAL ABOUT THE 5 STAR REVIEWS.
If you're looking for a delicious restaurant, please go elsewhere. I'm unsure if others posting 5 stars are being paid to say that, are friends of the restaurant or perhaps have long covid symptoms where their taste buds are distorted, but so many saying how amazing the food was- err, did we go to the same restaurant?
The restaurant I went to had good looking food, I'll give them that. It's great for pretty Instagram posts, but not if you want people to trust your opinion on good food.
Let's get down to the full details here:
The chips and salsa they give probably should've been the initial warning of things to come, because the tortilla chips lacked any salt and the salsa... it quite literally tasted like tomato mixed with water. I wish so badly that I was joking.
I ordered their tacos de puerco al pastor ($21.99) and instead got pork that was ALL turmeric-flavor and nothing else. Not little else, NOTHING else. It was orange and just pure turmeric. No salt. No other seasonings were being tasted. Just. Pure. Turmeric. I didn't even finish it, it was that bad. The side of beans were okay, I'll give them that! Though it was leaning on the bland side. I added salt, haha.
I also ordered their mango-flavored house margarita ($7.99) that oddly tasted nothing of mango, but rather like orange juice. I didn't even pick up a slight tequila flavor (or buzz for that matter!)
My boyfriend ordered their enchiladas suizas ($16.99) to which they asked if he wanted chicken, cheese or beef- he stated chicken (like it mentions in the menu) and instead of getting what was claimed: shredded chicken, he got weird chunks of bland, grilled chicken. So weird.
UNDERNEATH the slimey-tortilla-wrapped bland chicken was this odd smear of what we assume was the black beans mentioned in the menu description- which you can likely imagine how well those flavors mixed. The rice he got alongside that was- you guessed it, bland.
During this, the waitress never refilled our waters, only asked if I wanted another margarita (which for obvious reasoning, I didn't, lol.)
It seems like the food was bland as all hell or else shot to death with turmeric and unfortunately no inbetween. What was even worse is it ended up being over $60 for such terrible meals.
This is why I seriously question those who have left sparkling reviews. Did we get different cooks? Someone even had the audacity to call it "gourmet", another saying it was "the best suizas they ever had", LOL WHAT?
I've had gourmet food- this ain't it. Judging by some of the lower reviews, they all seem to carry my same viewpoint of terrible food that simply looks pretty. You have to question when there's 5 stars claiming supreme flavor and 1-2 stars saying zero flavor. Maybe we did get a different chef and so did those people. I don't think that however should excuse the level of atrocity this was.
All I know is I'll never come back to find out.
San Antonio is FILLED with amaaaazing food (and cheaper), go try one of those, you'll thank me later! Price doesn't always equal quality, remember that. 💗
(Edited to add: I forgot to mention, when they gave my boyfriend the grilled chicken, they charged him extra! He only found out...
Read moreNormally not one to post reviews because we all make mistakes but this was not right. We visit different restaurants often, different types of foods and price ranges, from taco trucks to steak houses and we don't forget our sweet tooth. For us steak eaters this was an expensive Mexican restaurant, this was up to full on steak prices at least a 6oz filet.. lol for some pieces of steak in a taco. Straight to our ticket -They were going to charge us about $4 for a side dish that was not ours, supposedly belonged to the next table, which was corrected. When we got our plates we thought that these are pricey plates for just two tacos each! BUT we didn’t even know we got screwed over on tacos until we saw the ticket! #1 order should have had 3 tacos but only got 2, #2 order should have had 4 tacos but only got 2, #3 order should of had 4 tacos but only got 2, thought it had been 3 but no. The enchiladas were ok, a bit dry but topping of cheese made up for it. I mean I guess one can’t go wrong with enchiladas at any Mexican restaurant. All sides dishes for these plates must have been meant for children. Had we not reviewed our ticket we would have not known we got screwed over with our tacos. This restaurant is overpriced. -When ordering an alcohol beverage one would assume the price is set for everything that is included in that drink no extras because that is the normal thing! Although by chance if it wasn’t included in the drink price it should have been mentioned to the customer that it was not included because we didn’t ask for any add ons, we didn’t get a chance to opt out of strawberries. So we got charged $1.50 for not even a full strawberry, which totaled $4.50 for added strawberry bits to house margaritas BUT did not get charged for the blue berries that were also in the drinks. ?? They did not charge us extra for the cucumbers, pineapples or tamarindo for the 3 agua frescas we ordered ?? but they did for the house margaritas? Makes no sense! -Dessert was fine. Tres leches, I did not taste it yet looked pretty and flan also pretty. Although the flan was sweet/sugary with more of a cheese cake consistency. -We always tip ALWAYS 15-20% normally 18%, 20% if off the charts,. Our tip was not the greatest this one time, especially for a birthday in our group and the long drive because of reviews. It was cash we had in hand, and not lying was a bit short of 15%. The owner, manager whatever should make up for the rest of the tip as it’s obviously not entirely the waiters fault. Not sure why this place would need reservations. The place was a lot smaller than expected and then with a reservation for 5 we got seated right next to the front entrance door. Not a place we would go back to; reservations, photos, reviews are exaggerated. Seems some reviews are probably bought, which is why one should always take reviews with a...
Read moreThe food was good. There's nothing bad to say about the food, but it wasn't anything to call amazing. The best part of our experience was our waiter, Sergio. He was awesome, friendly, and attentive. However, the worst part is dealing with the lady in pink named Liz. When making a reservation nowhere on the restaurant's website does it say that you have 2 hours from the moment you sit down. So, when we first checked-in at the restaurant we dealt with Liz and she very sternly, with no empathy or consideration, made us aware of this 2 hour rule. She came off as rude and uncaring. Almost as if she was better than us. Then as some of our table finished our meal, we continuously ordered drinks while the rest of our group finished theirs. During this time Liz very rudely kept staring at us and then would hover over our table constantly looking to see how much food our friend's plate had left. Our friends finished their plates and all of us were still ordering drinks. Then Liz very rudely comes up to our table and says we have to leave because our 2 hours is over. I could understand the 2 hour rule if we were just sitting there but we were still bringing in money for the restaurant by purchasing drinks. Also, our 2 hours literally had just ended a minute before Liz approached us to leave. Yet, we were still forced out by Liz with her uncaring attitude and rather unfriendly looking face. Plus, something as significant as a 2 hour rule should be disclosed when making the reservation and not after you arrive at the restaurant. Liz totally ruined our experience at this restaurant and we will not...
