I hired this company to do a few projects at my home including replacing some laminate floor that was water damaged, painting the ceiling in two small bathrooms and repairing, texturing and painting two small areas of water damaged sheetrock, 1 in a ceiling and 1 in a vertical wall. I was very clear to the dispatcher about the scope of work and she assured me she would send a very qualified "technician" to handle the job in 1 day. Just to be clear the job should have taken only 1 day.
The tech showed up at the agreed time and I walked him through the different tasks. First red flag was he said he didn't know how to repair (change) some bad laminate floor pieces that needed changing. I then had to call the dispatcher to let her know we had a problem. She said she would send a qualified person out to do this work and she did. He was very good when he got here and the floor looks good.
The tech then started on the patching and it was pretty obvious that he didn't know what he was doing. I questioned him about it and he assured me it would be good. See the pics, it wasn't. When he left several hours later the first coat of "mud" still wasn't dry and I also discovered there was nothing holding the patch in place but the paper backing on the sheetrock.
The ceiling painting was OK, not great. When I told this expert he had some "holidays" in the first bathroom, he didn't have a clue about what I was saying. "Holidays" isn't a secret code word among professionals or non-professionals but someone familiar with how to paint certainly knows what it means....you missed some spots. After they left for the day, I noticed he left his used masking tape in the bathroom wastebasket instead taking it with him.
I asked the tech to have his boss call me but he didn't call. Instead, the dispatcher who admittedly doesn't know anything about this work called. I explained the problem to her and she basically said it was my fault for not correcting the tech. Told her I wasn't being paid to supervise their people.
I made some suggestions to remedy this situation but she didn't seem to like any of them. Guess I'll see them in small claims court unless they change their mind to my way of thinking. My advice is don't use them and fall for the "craftsmen" pitch...
Read moreI contracted with this company to repair drywall as well as repair a loose step on my staircase. I was quoted $340 - $570 which I felt was a fair price. When the technician, he said the step would only need glue and a few nails. My husband and I discussed and decided we would take care of the step since it didn't need much. The technician left and purchased the items for the drywall and when he returned, I told him he did not need to do the step anymore. He turned and went to do the work on the drywall but couldn't because of a possible leak. At some point, he returned and fixed the step without my knowledge.
When the reception called to collect payment, I explained he did not do the drywall nor the step (I didn't know at the time). I knew I would be charged for at least a trip fee. She called back and said he did fix the step and we owe $324 TO FIX ONE STEP that I did not authorize!
She is immediately rude and tells me that if I didn't want it fixed, I should have called and let them know. The technician was in my house so as the homeowner, I should be able to stop the work. I don't need Mr. Handyman's permission. She also says if I don't pay, there could be criminal charges and a lien on my home. I never said I wouldn't pay so there was no need for threats.
I am highly disappointed in this company and would never recommend them to anyone else. I feel like this is not their first time scamming customers because she didn't even want to negotiate or come to a compromise that would make the customer happy, thus securing future business. Do yourself a favor. Do not hire this company. I'm sure there are much better...
Read moreAfter showering, the faucet in my tub would slow drip for quite awhile before stopping. It started getting worse so I called someone and got a rather steep quote to replace the whole thing. I saw a Mr Handyman van on my street a few days later and called the number. German came out and went over some options with me from trying to repair things to totally replacing. What I greatly appreciated was that he kept in mind that I was wanting something budget friendly. The quote I got from them for replacing the faucet and repairing the hole that needed to be made in the wall for access was waaaaay less than the other place and could even be less than that depending on how long the job took and the cost of materials. When it was all done, I had a shiny new faucet and could hardly tell there was ever a hole. Then I got sticker shock - but in a good way! The actual job came in under the initial quote!!! How often does THAT happen these days??? I will definitely call Mr Handyman again and most definitely...
