This is a good place to go if you must have that specialty item for woodworking and can't wait to order it online. The staff is VERY helpful however can be pretty gruff and a bit standoff-ish depending on who's helping you when you get there. Sometimes they can make you feel like they really have better things to do. Again though this really depends on who is helping you. They have many times gone out of their way to help me with a problem and also be quick to correct me if I have said something incorrectly (see above comment). They do have a large assortment of items and are usually very knowledgeable about those items. Their prices are high and their inventory of wood is starting to be somewhat thin recently. I however have noticed that it is getting increasingly harder to procure exotic woods for a decent price even in a rough form that you would have to cut and surface your own. I deal with a few exotic wood dealers in the bay area and it is becoming harder and harder for them to stay in business. I respect what they do and I have to say it isn't easy. Keep trying Woodcraft! Please for all of us that still enjoy the craft of woodworking and making things with our hands... Stay with us and we will continue to purchase items you sell as long as you can keep them reasonable and offer better quality of inventory. Your prices dictate such. I have never minded paying through the nose for great pieces of wood but here is the stipulation... It must be great pieces of wood!
Thank you guys for staying in business and continuing to be there for us to get those hard to find items not carried by the...
Read moreWent in to pick up a tool they show on their website and a friend had bought from there. When I asked the guy working the counter he gave me a look like he didn't know what tools even were. I asked if he could look it up in their system and while he was I looked around the store. When I made my way back to counter and asked what he found he told they haven't sold one in a couple years, to which another woman working there told me I was better going to some other hardware store to find it. At that point I was so pissed I put down the other items I had intended to purchase and walked out. When I got home I checked the woodcraft website to see if I was mistaken about them carrying the item, while they didn't have it at that particular location, all their other stores did. After seeing that I figured they would have offered to order one for me or at the very least tell me to go to their website but no. So I checked Amazon to see what I could find and guess what, right away I found it and guess who fulfilled the order...Woodcraft. While I ultimately gave them my money, the thing about a tiny specialty store compared to Lowes or Home Depot is customer service!! Unfortunately this is one big reason for brick and mortar stores losing to Amazon and...
Read moreI've bought several items there before (mostly small items) but went in today with the intent of purchasing a band saw. I've bee reading generally good things about Laguna band saws but hoped to get some advice. The salesperson was entirely uninterested in exploring my requirements or even try to talk to me about brand model differences. There was another sales person who was slightly more communicative but he left to help another customer. The final straw was that I then noticed the salesman writing up an order for the original Laguna model I asked about. I told him we weren't ready to decide yet and we left. I was a regular customer of the Woodcraft store in Woburn, Massachusetts before we moved to the Bay Area. I can hardly believe this is the same company. Unfortunately, their are not many other options on the peninsula which perhaps...
