I stopped by Geppetto’s to buy a $30 gift card, and when I went to check out, the cashier asked if I was on some kind of list. I said no, and she then asked for my name and phone number. When I asked why she needed my phone number, she said the owner requires them to collect it with every gift card purchase “in case there’s a problem with the gift card.”
This surprised me. Doesn’t Geppetto’s operate as a corporate-owned business? And if a receipt is provided at the time of purchase, why would they still need my phone number? It felt like she was trying to create a customer profile. I would have appreciated a clear and honest reason.
