We bought our home, the largest investment we had ever made, in October 2022. Within less than two weeks we had water leaking down two stories due to our La Cantina doors being installed incorrectly. The sellers refused to fix the problem so we hired an attorney. Upon further inspection we learned there were major structural and numerous other issues with the house. We sued the sellers and once the lawsuit settled, we had to fix the house as it was not sellable in its current condition. Since fixing the house required major demolition and rebuilding, we decided to take the opportunity to change a few things we did not like about the house. The options were to hire an architect and then a builder, and manage the project ourselves, or hire a design/build firm to handle everything. We spoke to a couple of architects and others who had done remodels, and learned that not only would it require an enormous time investment on our part but we could end up with a beautiful design that maybe couldn't be built without modifications during construction.
We attended a seminar at Jackson Design & Remodeling (JDR) and were immediately impressed with the firm's approach. Because they do design/build, we were confident that they would not propose something that looked good but could not be economically built. We scheduled a home visit to learn more about their process and to become more familiar with the team that would be assigned to us. The team assigned to you includes project directors and managers, an architect, engineer, interior designer, and estimator. This core team stays with you during your entire project.
When we first had an estimated cost in JDR's phase 1 (which gives you a concept and ~ pricing), we decided to comparison shop to see what it would cost to do a complete knockdown/rebuild. Every architect, engineer and construction individual we spoke to (their competitors) had only good things to say about the quality of work JDR does. This comparison also verified that what JDR was proposing was reasonably priced. This was comforting knowing that given the scope of work needed, even their competitors thought the pricing was reasonable.
It takes a lot to get a project off the ground and ours was a little more complicated as it required repair as well as remodel work. We decided to hire JDR and are so happy that we did. Since engaging with them in February 2025, we have had numerous meetings (phone, in their office, at our house) and email communications. We like the fact that they are always very responsive to our calls and emails. Our team is making sure they understand all of the potential issues with our house; something they do for every project. This allows JDR to provide a more accurate quote and ensure there are no surprises mid-renovation. The team is very creative and full of good ideas while considering our wants and needs. Because of this, our design and Scope of Work is continually being reviewed and changed before we commit to the phase 3 construction contract. We are almost to the finish line with our design after five months and once done, we can request permits and then begin the work. We really appreciate the team's flexibility and patience; repairing and remodeling a house is a very emotional experience and they understand this. Based on our experience, we can't recommend JDR...
Read moreI did an extensive condo remodel. Needed a designer to improve the small space kitchen for 2 people and flow and added a 3rd floor office, library, & exercise area loft within the vaulted ceiling area among other improvements. It was a difficult job with limited common area parking & need for trash removal. Hired JDR as heard they were excellent in small space design & construction. I was not disappointed! Pamela is an outstanding designer along with her assistant Jennifer who changed drawings while we were meeting so we could see them on paper rather than wait and have another meeting or call. This allowed for easier design & product decisions on our part. Arnold went with me to present to the HOA requesting approval on changes for roof penetrations & a new chimney location for my fireplace. Very happy with JDR’s design! Then, there was Joe, our construction project manager. In all remodels there are surprises when you are removing walls, adding a walk-in shower, removing a bathtub that requires rearranging plumbing for a new soak tub, etc. and Joe’s experience and problem solving skills, along with Pamela, saved time and money. I had to move out because of the work and Joe was in constant contact with updates and photos of progress. During construction, I believe Joe had my interest at heart and went beyond the call to make us happy. My sweetheart & I are enjoying my new condo. The JDR design-build team made it possible. My highest...
Read moreMy husband and I enlisted the help of Jackson for our interior home remodel, after attending one of their seminars. After the initial meeting with George Lofland, our project director we were impressed and decided to proceed. We were happy with our entire team, David our architect did a great design and made the space more functional. Anna Murillo, our designer was a pleasure to work with and very helpful with our selections. Any time we had any questions or concerns it was handled in a timely manner. Although her assistant Sophia, was more behind the scenes any interactions with her were pleasant. Eric Lusko our project manager was great and always there for us anytime any issues arose. When we were unable to extend our rental lease he pulled some strings to get the project completed enough so we could move back in. We felt the allowance we were given for materials was generous. There were some items that we had done which added to the cost of our project, but the general cost came in around the amount we were originally quoted. Over all it was a very good experience and all the people we came in contact with over the course of the project were courteous and professional. We are enjoying our home even more now, it came out even better than we imagined and our friends, neighbors and family absolutely love it. Thank...
