We were so nervous about our dog's spay surgery. We tragically lost our previous dog back in October 2020 and after we lost him, we were blessed to find and adopt a beautiful girl to help us cope with the grief. She was also a new companion for our orange tabby cat that was also in mourning. We waited for our girl to go through her first heat and decided that we would move forward with getting her spayed before she turned 2 (in September 2022). After making numerous calls around to San Diego to find a "reasonable" price, I landed on Morena Pet Hospital and it was well worth every penny. Although you can't put a price on the wellness and care of your beloved pet, it was equally nice to know that we were paying less than $600 for everything and our girl was in good hands! Dr. Lindsey Moore was phenomenal and while our girl was in her care, Dr. Lindsey called us to give us an update on Kinna's physical exam results and explained to us the next steps for the blood panel, surgery, and recovery period post-op. She was extremely understanding and empathetic to our anxieties and questions. Overall, we were just really impressed especially in such an emotional state. The spay is a routine procedure but the risk involved is what scared us the most. After we lost our dog in 2020, we later suffered two pregnancy losses (one in 2021, and one in 2022). So the potential of losing our girl just manifested itself as a result of our trauma and so we were extra nervous. Suffice it to say, we could not be more pleased with the compassionate experience and service our little girl and her nervous fur parents received. I got my dog neutered here and Dr. Mahlberg was awesome. She was very thorough and even called to check in with me before the surgery.

However, I will not be taking my dog back to this vet because I told them I needed a certain type of heart worm medicine that I could only order through 1-800-Pet-Meds. 1-800-Pet-Meds needs vet approval before they can ship any perscription. Morena informed me to bring my dog in for a $40 heart worm test and if his results came back negative they would give the approval to 1-800-Pet-Meds.

They gave me the run-around for over a week and never ended up giving approval to 1-800-Pet-Meds. They told me they were unable to do so. When I told them that they were the ones that told me to bring my dog in for a heart worm test so that they could okay the prescription, they changed their story. Now they could write a written prescription but they couldn't fax it or email it to 1-800-Pet-Meds. I ended up having to make an additional trip to the vet to pick up the written prescription and mail it into 1-800-Pet-Meds myself.

Then, come to find out, they didn't even write the correct prescription so now I have to start from the beginning.

We simply have never met or known any vet who was more skilled, compassionate, and efficient than Dr. Jeanne Potter. We were traveling through southern California when our 10 y/o Lab suddenly developed some very serious medical issues. We came to Morena Pet Hospital frightened and concerned for our dog. Dr. Potter and her extraordinarily caring and efficient staff quickly assessed our dog’s problem, did the necessary testing in their well-equipped clinic and quickly got our dog’s problems diagnosed, treated and resolved. Dr. Potter listened carefully to our concerns, expertly examined and treated our dog while patiently explaining everything to us in detail at every step in the process. It is obvious that she and her staff truly enjoy what they do and that they are very, very good at it. If you are looking for an incredibly skilled, knowledgeable and experienced veterinarian and an extremely efficient and well run clinic, we cannot imagine how you could do any better than Dr. Jeanne Potter and the Morena...
