San Carlos Ace Hardware — Local services in San Diego

I feel like a 1 implies they at least “something” so realistically a negative star would be more appropriate.

They lack customer service and acknowledgement and even their follow through leaves nothing to be desired for. This is closest location to me and twice I’ve been failed.

The first time the wrong paint was mixed and painted so I had to go back and repurchase and pay for a second round of labor and paint to have my shed repainted.

Today, my second time visiting this store I walked in and straight the paint counter. Upon getting there an employee (young man) walked right past us and immediately started talking to a girl who at the time was mixing paint. We patiently waited 2-3 minutes while they talked and then said hello! And asked if they were gonna say hi or acknowledge us. And the young man turned around and looked at and said “what?” As the girl said can I help you? And I said yes, you can call a supervisor. We waited a few more minutes to be told she was on her way. We waited a few more minutes until we saw a lady with a cart sauntering towards us and as she got to us I said hello are you the supervisor? And she replied yes how can I help you..

So I explained the situation and she apologized and agreed that it was poor customer service. And at that point with no effort to recover the situation I explained as a retail manager that I would never let my associates treat my customers as such. And I expressed my disappointment, left the store.. and drove to San Carlos ACE where they promptly took care of us with no effort and an experience that I’ll gladly drive...

I needed a powerful lightweight handheld vacuum for pet hair, as my daughter just moved in with her dog. I chose Ace Hardware because I'm sick of further enriching billionaires and I'm so very glad I did. The service, selection and price was all much BETTER than the big box store in my area. Especially the service! I didnt have to hunt around when for an associate when i had questions, and the checkout lines were manned so that the wait was minimal. (My time is very valuable to me.) I also picked up some very reasonable priced gardening supplies. New rule for me.... support small entrepreneurs who share the wealth and employ enough human beings to adequately service their customers. This is generally a pretty good store, and I like it a lot. My problem comes in with the key making. On several occasions I’ve had keys made that didn’t work, and I had to return them and have them made again. Most recently I had a key made for a property I have on the east coast. I had the key made and shipped across country. Only when they needed to enter the property did they realize the key didn’t work. Left me in a really bad spot. I had a key made here once before that also didn’t work but it was for something close by so I was able to come in and have it remade. Not possible this time. I’m moving soon, but if I was staying close by I’d never have another key...
